I stopped trusting GS when they gave Twilight Princess an 8.8 and just months later WarioWare: Smooth Moves a 9.1.

Then the Jeff Gerstmann debacle only ensured that they couldn't be taken seriously. Just about every other reviewer has left GameSpot since the Gerstmann incident.

Wait why did you stop trusting them for giving two games great scores?

Not that scores say anything for me but it seems odd.

So you agree that WarioWare > Twilight Princess?

And GameSpot is the ONLY major site that rated TP below a 9 on GR.

 @making music

you shouldn't get into that kinda of comparing mentality. warioware and TP are too different to really say one is better then the other.

what i mean is, i might review a movie like 'the toxic avenger' and give it 3/4 stars and then give a movie like 'little big league' the same score. am i saying one is better then the other? well, it depends on what you're looking for. do you want a crazy, over the top low budget 80s shlock film, or do you want a family friendly baseball centric film? either way, both are good films if that's what you're looking for.

TP was a game that was in development for a long time and was more a less a gamecube port with some waggle. a great game but not a great wii game. so the score makes sense (to me).

warioware was a game designed for the wii that takes full advantage of the system.

either way though, both games are great if they offer what you're looking for.

I read about the Jeff Gerstmann thing on Penny Arcade back when it happened. I thought "ohh, it's a conspiracy" like everyone else. But looking back on it, it seems more like sour grapes.

He gave the game a 6 when the average was about a 6.5 (IGN gave it a 7 for comparison) which wasn't that far of the mark.

Eidos was the publisher that was suposed to have put all the pressure on Gamespot, but thay aren't that big a publisher, are they? They're certainly no EA.

Reading some of the reviews on Gerstmann's new website leads me to believe that Gamespot didn't lose anything in letting him go, and maybe is better off without him.

We will never know the whole story, but you have to take Gerstmann's side with a grain of salt in my opinon. Although if it is true, I guess that would be pretty damning for Gamespot.

I just don't see any real changes in Gamespot since he left.

I distrusted GS because they are imo a bit bias in favor of the 360 and I don't really like their reviews although I actually like the hotspot a bit.

A respectable review site DOESN'T 'let go' their Editor in Chief, because their ad-supporter dosen't like the review.

Kane and Lynch deserves a 6.0 and to fire their own editor in chief for over 5 years is absolutely a piss in the face of "journalist' everywhere.

For that alone, I wish GS burns in hell. Frankly, I stopped going to CNet altogether.

Just did a little more digging and it appears that Gerstmann was "Editorial Director" when he was fired, which seems to be Gamespot's highest position. I didn't realize that. I thought he was just some reviewer. Not sure how long he was in that position, but he was with Gamespot for 11 years.

Still not convinced he was anything special, or that Kane and Lynch was the only reason.

I really hate how Gamespot will just not review lots of games, or review them like a week after it's released.

IGN reviews almost every game, no matter how small, and almost always a while before the release.

Why ask why? IGN is better that's why.

Nintendo still doomed?

I agree that an 8.8 is a fair score for Twilight Princess its about what i would rate the game, but 9.1 for Wario ware is just crazy try about a 7 and they would be closer to the truth, I dont distrust Gamespot but i do prefer the layout of the IGN website so generally visit that over Gamespot.

Any site or magazine with ratings our of 5 i dont trust as its not accurate enought to give a good idea 3 stars for all i know could mean better 50% and 70% A 50% game i would not consider but a 70% game i would. I think magazine who use this system are scared of being wroung and rating a game differently to everyone else.

I lost ALL faith in gamestop's reviews after Conan got the same score of Ratchet and Clank Futures xD. I'm sorry, those games are universes apart in terms of quality.

QFT

I haven't been to gamespot.com ever since the Ratchet review. Don't miss that crappy website at all. Life is better without GameSpot distress.

This is why i stopped reading them too, a 7.5 to my GoTY for 2007.

ign is just better i dont listen to gs reviews anymore
