Exactly.

It's even rarer to find people who has XII as their favorite, like me |
And what's funny is the people who REALLY liked VIII didn't care for XII they are opposites in that sense lol. Crazy!
The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

These kind of lists are never going to satisfy anybody. I disagree with at least half of it, but then again that's just my opinion. VIII and X are too low for me and I, III and IV are a bit too high. I would also switch a lot of the other ones around as well.
At least they put the worst six games at the bottom of the list and the best six at the top.

I...agree with this list almost exactly. FFIX and XII are definitely unappreciated and in general just fun, be sure to try them out! A great list.
IX is just a whimsical experience, despite the dark matter. It has a lot of great characters, and a lot of unique locations with amazing music. It's a total departure from the previous two PS1 titles which I enjoyed and the levelling system with learning things from equipment was perfectly balanced and unique.
XII's world, scope and sheer variety is its main draw alongside the music and the beauty. Some of the characters are great also, the guild remains one of the best features in any FF game and the battle system for me remains unbeaten with its levels upon levels of customization.
I actually find it interesting that so many people seem to like X. Probably because there are younger gamers on here, and maybe X was the first one they played... Don't get me wrong, I played the crap out of it when it came out, but it really is terrible, in hindsight. Everything is so awkward and nonsensical; they really shouldn't have bothered with dubbing yet either. I'm a big James Arnold Taylor fan, but his role as Tidus pretty much ruins the game for me. I mean, Tidus is like the most moronic lead character there has been in the franchise.
"Soooo, I guess what he was saying is that we should all worship some old guys, or something."

Yeah I don't see the hype for FFX. It has some decent moments but in numerous areas (namely the battle system and the world) it takes a step backwards from where the series was going. Fortunately they fix that in XII if you ask me!
Oh and I still can't stand Blitzball. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion ofcourse and feel free to enjoy it but it never "clicked" for me.

The IGN poll (top 3 in bold):
My grain of salt :
12. II
Didn't play/10
11. VIII
MC made me hate this game.
10. XIII
Godlike OST, nice but arguable gameplay, rich story; undeserved hate IMO
9. X
Greatest romance.
8. III
I guess it was a good game, back then. VG sure came a long way.
7. I
Didnt play/10
6. VII
I like the extended universe but the game itself has major flaws, including outdated gameplay and easy to hate MC.
5. V
Didn't play/10
4. IV
Invented JRPG storywriting pretty much. Still very much outdated, but was a masterpiece back then.
3. IX
Has some of the greatest characters. The only FF of the PS1 era I plan on playing again.
2. XII
Best geopolitics, but held back by 3 characters (Vaan, Penelo and Fran; sorted from the most useless to the story the least)
1. VI
Best OST, best Villain, great characters, great story, outdated gameplay. Also most deserving of a remake.

6th. XIII
5th VIII
4th. X
3rd. VII
2nd. VI
1st. IV
4th place and 3rd place are interchangeable.
