I still plan on increasing my Wii U software library but the NX being a no show at e3 is a major disappointment. I have friends all on the Xbox One and though I was planning on buying a NX this year I will be buying the X1 to join them.

Its a pretty sad time in terms of new releases, but the joy I will have in March 2017 is keeping my disappointment right now in check.

Probably, but none that I remember. I think 2016 might be the worst year ever as a Nintendo fan for me.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

This is a really tricky question to answer because I would say yes, this is the worst time to be a Nintendo fan. But I'm not really that sad because we have some spectacular games on the Wii U and 3DS right now, and the NX is on the horizon. It just sucks right now because we are in a really shitty transition period where the future is unclear and Nintendo is making some bad choices right now. Also fans are upset because of the Wii U droughts and we just want to know what the NX is already damn it! Also the E3 news, or lack thereof, is really killing a lot of people's hype and mood. Hopefully in about 4 months we will be excited about the NX and Nintendo's future as a whole.

N64 era will forever be the worst to me. It and the GBC, while decent, did not do much for me...especially the N64, which was a massive disappointment.

Yes, here is the list of Nintendo published console games in 2011 & 2012:

2011
Mario Sports Mix
Wii Play: Motion
Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident
Xenoblade Chronicles
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Fortune Street
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Published by Nintendo in Japan only)
Just Dance Wii (Japan only)
2012
Rhythm Heaven Fever
PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond
Mario Party 9
Kirby's Dream Collection (Japan and North America only)
The Last Story (Published by Nintendo outside of North America)
Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Published by Nintendo in Europe only)
Project Zero 2: Wii Edition (Japan and PAL regions only)'
Kiki Trick (Japan only)
Just Dance Wii 2 (Japan only)

I don't play handhelds much & didnt get a Wii U at launch. I didn't get a single game on that list. I played nothing but older Nintendo games during that time.

2015 & 2016 on Wii U is much better in comparison

Definitely the worst. In the past they've done badly financially, but at least they still put out a lot of great games. Right now they're floundering and just about everything they do disappoints me. They've never been more stubborn and out of touch, and it's never mattered as much as it does now.

when have they done bad financially in the past? this generation had their first annual loss ever.

They've never been in danger of going bankrupt or anything, but some systems made much much less money than others.  The N64 and the Gamecube both underperformed, many considering the latter to be a commercial failure.

Serious question.

Since Nintendo joined the console space, has there ever been a time when things were as bad as they are now?

Didn't you have the same feelings last year at this time of the year and left for a couple of months? Maybe it is the winter blues that has come over you (do you have winter blues in Australia?) For me on top of the other hemisphere (Sweden), summer is coming and I really couldn't care less about video games for a couple of months. I frequently get the blues in autumn/winter though.
