Forums - Nintendo - kotaku - NX delayed to 2017 due to launch games lineup

You know, when you read this

and think how close have Koei Tecmo and Nintendo worked together this last gen, the lack of software seems like the obvious cause of the delay.

And also makes you wonde what the f*ck has been Nintendo doing if KT are now starting to develop NX games.

Think that's a mistranslation, in the previous fiscal year KT didn't have NX listed, this year they do.

This is a fairly plausible theory seeing how much trouble Nintendo had developing HD titles for the Wii U from the beginning. This is the cost of jumping onto the train way, way late though, let's hope they can steer their ship into calmer and kinder waters in the coming years (their proverbial Blue Ocean has been fraught with storms and whirlpools).

Retro Studios: FInished DKC TF late 2013. Schould have something new between late 2016 and late 2017, if it's something big.
EAD 1: Finished Mario Kart 8 in 2014, very likely possible to do another MArio KArt in three years.
EAD 2: Splatoon and Animal Crossing Home Designer last year>Probably nothing big next year, smaller game quite possible.
EAD 3: Busy with Zelda NX/U
EAD 4: Probably working on Pikmin 4 which might be NX/U or NX only now.

EAD Tokyo:
Hasn't had anything big since Super Mario 3D World. So should be able to have something ready between late 2016 and late 2017.

And yes, those are EPD now actually.

Other studios will probably need more time, are usually codeveloping or doing small games. But Nintendo might be working with third parties for exclusive content, ports as well as new games.

Well, both the PS4 and Xbox One launched with limited games, and they did fine.

As long as they have one well loved franchise and a few others they should be ok. It's tough, new systems are tough. And Nintendo tends to launch games that work out of the box more than just about anyone else.

Still, missing the holiday in the USA/UK/Canada/Mexico (and what others have big December holiday sales?) will hurt them in the long run, IMO.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

This doesn't explain why no NX at E3 so I'm more inclined to believe it's a hardware issue, but I guess this could be part of the reason.

And there are still people that think Nintendo can pull off developer tools that will allow developers to make one game and just compile it to run optimally on both a home console and a portable one.

I hope it's that, but I'm not confident.

And listing NX in their fiscal year doesn't mean much unless they state if they are effectively going to launch games for it this FY, not starting to develop software for it.

A quote from it:

"When asked why Nintendo wasn’t launching the NX in time for this year’s big holiday season, Kimishima explained that Nintendo wanted to make sure there were games to go along with the NX."

Nintendo is haveing trouble with the games.... and its going to cost them the Holiday sales for their console.

Ouch.

What do you guys think? this sounds plausible?

That is not at all what is said. You're fabricating facts. It's maybe not just about the launch games, but to ensure a steady flow of games throughout the years following the launch.

Yes it is.

Theyre talking about the delay of the NX.

and the reason given is "Nintendo wanted to make sure there were games to go along with the NX.".

Im assumeing hes talking about the launch of the NX, when asking about its delay.

Delaying a launch 3-4 months doesnt make sure you can have games comeing in a steady flow for years and years to come.

Its obvious hes talking about the launch titles for the NX.

Think of the wording.

If you ask about a hardware delay, and the reason your giveing is "we want to be sure theres games to go along with it".

How do you not think, ohhh... its launch title games their talking about? To me its what it is, its not "steady flow of games for years to come".

Dev tools are not really the problem so much, as far I can tell Nintendo's made reasonably easy to program for hardware since the N64. Yes maybe not perfect to your exact liking but easy enough.

The problem with Nintendo is they simply don't make games very quickly period. You could give them any development tool on the planet and it wouldn't make a difference really. Unifying library as such is likely not even a choice, they simply would not be able to make enough PS4-style games to support a console going forward, a unified library is the only way to get sufficent software per year.

I dont think I truly believe that.i mean, it can be the reason, but I dont think 3-4 months delay would make that MUCH of a difference. This delay must be more tied to unnexpected complications, like manufacturing issues, or last minute changes to the console specs.(which could affect the game development. Then I would believe it.).I believe more in cases that games are being delayed because of the NX, like Zelda Wii U.

But that can be for the good.If they manage to make a great system with an excellent launch window AND first year, it can find success. For me a good launch would be Zelda with one NX exclusive, and preferenciably a new IP altogether, with at least 2 Wii U ports. For the rest of the launch window, the rest of the Wii U ports should be released with one or 2 new games. And after that, the ideal would be to have 1 medium to big game every month, with a really big game at the holidays to boost sales. That excluding third party, of course.(Or if they manage to get a exclusive deal with lets say, a destiny-like game, that could make up for the "game of the month")

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
