It has a lot of games that are on phones and tablets, but playable on Windows. And ofcouse some MS exclusives.

Its also where you can buy music, TV shows, and movies.

The way I look at that kind of info is "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Even Steam asks for install location before starting the installation. Windows Store should definitely ask for install location for larger pieces of software such as games.

Even at Steam you have to go in its settings to add additional install partitions.

The Windows Store is preinstalled, of course its default partition is the system partition. If Steam were preinstalled with windows installation, it would be the same, since they can't be sure that additional partition aren't temporary connected drives.

That's probably why then; I never play mobile games and already have three streaming services for movies and TV in addition to an extensive movie and TV collection on disc.

Steam always asks where you want to install a game when you install it.

At least that's how I remember it

By default, Steam installs games under its own installation directory, just like you say the Windows Store does. But with Steam, you can set up other possible installation directories, and then it will ask which one you want to use for each installation. To me, the default behavior sounds a lot like that of Windows Store's, but it also sounds like Steam is much more customizable if that's what you want. Even Steam sucked in that regard for a long time though (everything used to install under Steam's own installation directory).

The thing is people compare it to Steam and Origin but its something different. Its a mobile marketplace like Google Play and iTunes. Games, apps, music, and and video.

But that makes it far less interesting to me, I've downloaded 3 apps on my phone in about 3 years. One was a flashlight add-on, the other Ookla speed test and the last was IMDB for mobile... As far as PC, I try to keep the number of programs and apps as low as possible.

I also don't have spotify, been using Grooveshark for years now, and I have Netflix, HBO and Viaplay (with sports package), as well as Steam, Origin and GOG (the latter is hugely underappreciated in my opinion).

I hear ya, its a different market for a different audience. Obviously some people rather play the casual stuff only found in Windows Store. While Steam, Origins, and GOG are aimed at core audiences. Also, the Windows Store has a lot of free to play stuff.

Microsoft's Xbox exclusives are starting to come to the Windows store, haven't you heard the news? I just got Killer Instinct and Quantum Break(for 1/3 the price), they're not coming to Steam.

I know about, but I have more or less zero interest in these games. The only console games I'm looking to get right now are Uncharted 4, GT 7 and possibly FFXV.

Edit; a couple of years back when MS stated that they would start focusing more on the PC again, I was kinda hoping that it meant investing in studios or getting great support for windows games like the good old days, and not simply porting Xbox games to PC. I'm quite disappointed with their "drive" towards better PC gaming thus far.
