Precisely this. If Yacht Club wants to work on a new Shovel Knight right after, we'll see it in 2 years. I think that they'll probably want to create some sort of new IP after Shovel Knight, though.

Also, you just bought the game? Be sure to tell me how its going for you. Shovel Knight really is an incredible game.

Died at the first dragon!

Eventually defeated the (first?) Black Knight!

It was not as difficult as I had imagined - but then I am only in the beginning!

I am not a fan of Bitpop either!

Say what? you dont like the music? :O In my eyes it was the best soundtrack of any game in 2014. It certainly get's harder than the first map, it's more or less a tutorial.

So? Gravity Rush Remastered was also 30$

Yep, and still sold significantly less than Shovel Knight. Even with SK being digital exclusive for more than a year before its physical release.

Honestly, price is only so much of an advantage. It doesn't guarantee success in every instance.

Indeed, so I don't see why people would try to use price as a means to downplay SK's success. I mean, should we start to include budget and return on investment as well lol? Cause I'm pretty sure SK would blow AAAs out of the water then

200 physical with a year headstart for the digital version.

Wauw!

Honestly this game should get much more sales.
Nowadays many so-so indy have barely problems reaching 1m sales, many of them even PC exclusive. 1.2m in itself is a good number and a success for them, but compared to other titles the number is pretty disappointing.

People always find a way to turn positive news into negative one...

No, its not that common.Sure, more indie games are selling better than lets say 3 years ago, but they are still few and far betwenn. And since this game still have alot of support comming for it, we can certainly expect more sales. Not to mention the money they made with the DLCs and the amiibo. So the money they made must be higher than other indies that sell 1 million.

It's pretty common for known indie games and Shovel Knight is one of them. Took them far longer than expected to reach that number. Far worse games have reached a million much quicker. Nowadays and already 3 years ago. So, yeah it's a bit sad it's only at 1.2m as of now. Remember that it's on pretty much every platform there is. Also there's only one DLC as of now and that one is free.

I'm not saying that it should compete with Rocket League or Minecraft, but it's certainly a better game than many dozen indie games that sold more.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Not really surprising to me seeing as platformer fans are on Nintendo consoles mainly.

In Sweden it is on 11th place on the download list (All-time, not counting VC) on the Wii U eShop. Selling better than NES Remix (1&2) and Rayman Legends and Child of Light.

Honestly the game isn't that hard once you get the hang of it.

Pretty much every boss kicked my ass about twice before I beat them, but once you know the pattern it's quite doable. The stages themselves were pretty easy though mostly. Make sure to buy the health upgrades and get the good relics (Phase Locket makes the game really easy).

Great sales for a fun game. I guess the PS sales are based in system it was first activated on though as it's cross buy.

Or would they count someone downloading on more than 1 system as 2 sales?

Possibly. If they wanted to, they definitely could do it either way, though I would just assume that one purchase would go towards the version that was originally bought.

bet: lost

As far as im aware, its not common.Just because 3 or 4 indies reached that mark last year(im guessing numbers here, I dont remember which games reached that milestone) dosent make that common.Common would be if 40% or higher of every indie released reached those sales.Plus this is the first game from Yatch Club, so th game didnt have any prior hype(read:developer pedigree) behind it.Minecraft and Rocket League are annomalities, even for AAA standard. And you need to remember that it released first on PC and Nintendo systems, then went to Sony and Microsoft.

And I mean, its 1.2 million for gods sake! They used  roughly 311k to developed it, and they are making dozens of millions in profits. How can that be sad in any way?People are unrealistic in expectations. If the industry needed millions upon millions of sales for any game to be considered a success, it would have crashed by now.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
