Forums - Nintendo - I wish the Mega Man and Donkey Kong franchises weren't so hard so I can play/love them.

Virtual Console games usually have the ability to savescum (save wherever and whenever you want), that takes away a lot of the difficulty. And if not, there's always emulators to create save states. It doesn't always work, but it definitively takes away a big chunk of the difficulty.

So useful for DK 64. I don't know how people 100% that game on the actual system, like Jesus lol.

I did and I'm not even proud of it. But the games I owned were limited back when that came out, so I was playing it for several months straight as my only game most likely.

In the case of DKC on the SNES, it had a proper challenge, but it got on my nerves because you could only save progress every three-to-four levels, and running out of lives meant you had to go back and replay several levels to get back to where you kept dying. I didn't mind the difficulty, but I hated feeling like I had to replay levels I had beaten already when I just wanted to hurry up and get back to the one I wanted to be on. I'm not too big on save scumming, but I'll abuse it for that, where I can just load a save state at the start of each level instead of having to waste time going back each time.

Really though, I think the VC adds the "golden banana" or "white tanooki suit" or "invincible Arwing" that these older games need. They are meant to be challenging, like others have said, and I would never want that taken from them. But they do need EZ Modes for those who don't want that level of challenge and just want to progress through the game. Now they sorta have it.

I don't, those games are intended to be hard and they are more fun this way, you have hundreds of franchises with a medium or low level of difficulty to enjoy if you dont like big challenges. I do have nothing against the idea of an easy mode in any kind of games, even soul games. I wouldn't use that mode but I'm ok if people that can't stand the stress of the challenge (or just dont have enough skills) is able to enjoy the game too. But some franchises want to keep their reputation of being hard, and I can understand why.

Difficulty is the only thing DK can brag. Take off and it will be even more pointless than before.

Calling pointless to one of the best platformers ever done. You never fail to impress me.

If depends on the skill level that the player has also, its not that there hard, there a challenge.

Some games are designed like this for their experience, the point is to keep playing to improve and build your skill. TF isn't even that bad compared to Returns, this reminds me of people trying to play Wonderful 101 and the game destroyed them resulting in complaints.

Oh yeah, that one is hard to master! Still love it and play it for the third time at the moment.

I can't possibly agree with this. Some games are meant to be harder, not all of them have to be easy. That doesn't mean the experience is not enjoyable. They're about challenging yourself. You have plenty of games which offer the opposite. There's nothing wrong about variety.

Try Mega Man 10. There is an easy mode option.

So basically you want every game to practically play itself like the new Nintendo games do?

LOL... Mega Man and the newer DK games are average in the difficulty department compared to most 8 and 16 bit action / platform games of the day. Once you get the formulas down you're good to go. I can still plow through classics like Mega Man 2 and Contra without breaking a sweat.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
