Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Uncharted 4 the first game that looks better than real life?

I don't think its possible to look better than real life.

I mean are the stylized animations, environments a better representation than their real life counterparts, emotions etc, do we want real life to look like UC4 or vice versa? The game is neither cartoony nor too realistic, I think it sits in the goldilocks zone. Discuss.

Personally, I'd rather the real world look like Okami, so no, it's not the first.

And, nah, even if I was just comparing UC4 to the real world, real world still looks much cooler.

Have you ever been outside? Game looks pretty good but nowhere close to real life. There are several other games out there that look more realistic than UC4 and even they arent close to real life yet

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

Videogames are so beautiful (more than reality), see
Metal Gear Solid 3, Ni No Kuni, The Last of Us and now Uncharted 4 : ) The picture in the first post is so amazing, wow !!

Not sure if any game can look "better than real life."

With that said, the game definitely looks outstanding, and I certainly can't wait for it to come out.

4k gives a magical effect that makes it seem better than real life and games have this effect also, I can't say U4 has it but games in the future made with 4k in mind will look "better than real life" in the sense that theres more colour and a maigical feel to them.

Wait.... so with 4k there is more colour and a magical feel?

I've definitely heard everything now.

I'm guessing you game primarily on the PC right?

The Order 1886 may even look better.

Not more realistic, but better.

And if you are looking for real real graphical porn: Drive Club

I don't think I got this right, how is a game supposed to look better than real life ? it's not like a console is capable of increasing your visive capacity, If youwere trying to express a different concept please try to explain me...

I don't think you get his point. Real life doesn't necessarily look good just because it is, by definition, 100% realistic. Computer Generated images of a thing or a process can look a lot cooler than it looks in real life, even though the computer generated images (CGI) aren't as realistic. Furthermore, when you design a landscape from the ground up, you can design it in ways that makes it look much more interesting and pretty than a real life landscape, even when using a realistic artstyle.

Having done my fair share of traveling around though, not to mention that I live in a rather spectacularly pretty area (imo), I don't think UC4 looks better than real life. But I certainly believe that games (or computer generated images in general) can surpass the "prettiness" of real life. It may not have happened yet, but I actually don't think we are far off at all to have the technological means available to pull it off, and then all that is left is for a team of artists with both the knowledge and vision to pull it off.

TL;DR to look better you don't have to look more realistic.

I understand what you're saying, and they're getting really close.  But, I can think of a handful of images that I find more visually stimulating:

I could go on and on, but yeah, Uncharted is looking extraordinary :)

In the end, I agree with you, but consider this: how much photoshop and how many filters have been applied to make those pictures look more amazing than their real life counterparts?

Couldn't tell ya, I didn't take the pictures, and have never been to the sites in question.  The guy who takes the Iceland photos has a ridiculous pile of them though (and a ton of incredible Ice cave shots).
