To anyone who doesn't want voice acting: What's holding you from just disabling voices in case it will come to Zelda? Wouldn't it be a good thing when people at least have the option to pick what they prefer?

Link's tunic in Zelda U is blue and Link hasn't worn tights since Majora's Mask. |
I bet it will be green when it releases.
Seriously, just changing the color doesn't really count and that wasn't my point in my post. The series hasn't evolved over the years.

A lot of hardcore Nintendo will disagree with on that. And I agree its totally dumb not to have voice acting in this day and age. |
Theres of course a charm to random mumbles and imagining things, but quality, charismatic voice acting + would really take the franchise to another level. Especially at this point where Skyward had a rather big script. The openning few hours of the game were filled with so much dialogue, its clear that the developers had a very clear vision for the NCPs and how they want them to come across.
Link still hasn't had no lines of dialogue so of course he remaining silent is safe.

I bet he won't. He's also not wearing a hat. Link having a tunic has nothing to do with that.

Souls are easily recoverable in Souls games. Shovel Knight also adopts the same method, only taking a fraction of your money when you die. This isn't some inflexible system. I don't see what you're getting at. |
Going to the nearest healing spot or reloading your save file takes like 30 seconds. It's faster and way safer than going to where you died to recover your souls, which you have to do without dying again (if you die again you lose them forever) and killing the monster that killed you, who is now even stronger (in Bloodborne). In Bloodborne you may want to kill some easy enemies to earn some currency to buy healing consumables before going to where you died to be safer too. You also have to recover your souls before turning off the console or they're gone forever as well.
The current sytem isn't inflexible as well so I don't see why Zelda has to copy something else that still would need tuning from another game.
I really think all NPC should have actual voice acting, maybe not link. Also since OoT and TP we have been spoilt by oblivion and fallout. Zelda does need a re-boot similar to what OoT was to the series but I'm confidant Zelda U will deliver
Its probably why I've struggled to get into Zelda, since i have no nostalgic feeling tying me to it the little I've played felt dated and uninviting for a newbie to the franchise

Still same ol' shit though. Link still looks like a girl with pointy ears and has blonde hair in a tunic outfit.

I'm a huge Zelda fan and the games are all either very good or great, but a number of elements are bad and/or need changing. Personally I agree with the statement above that says the series needs a OoT-style recharge since they've been building off that engine for a couple decades now. But that aside, my list:
-No more hints. I want to try to solve puzzles before my sword tells me what to do. Hints could come from villagers, or men in caves or whatever if you explore enough, but not thrown at you as soon as you reach a puzzle.
-No more "no sword, instant death collect-a-thon" quests. Hate those low-effort ways of extending the game.
-Add NPC Voice acting. Not having it is cheaping out.
-Revised combat and camera. Z-targeting was a great innovation... in 1998. I'd like a hybrid camera system that follows behind you for general movement and possibly when you encounter one enemy or shoot at one from the distance. But when encountering a key combat or puzzle situation I'd like it in a locked position, possibly overhead, for the best or needed vantage point. Combat should be hectic and involve lots of enemies, and with a locked overhead view it could be precise and action packed. Dodging arrows, moving around quickly, using multiple weapons, - the standards of classic 2D Zelda. I use the Batman: AA series for reference as to how it could work in terms of camera, though I would say the combat should be much more detailed and not just button mashing. The closest modern Zelda to get this style is WW.
-Related to the above, weapons should be cool and have various uses. Slash with the sword, use a boomerang to stun, fire a magical blast in quick succession. And less emphasis on using the item in the area it was found. There should be creative use throughout the game.
-Multiple areas and cities. I don't want just one "town". I'd like the feeling of a "journey" to multiple lands.
-And yes, Link should change his outfit. In Zelda 1, Link was only green for the early outset. For most of the adventure he wore blue after getting the blue ring. I'd like to see that simulated with Link starting out wearing the tunic but soon after getting a far more badass blue-silver chain mail outfit. Later outfits could be red or gold or plate-style as homage to Zelda's red ring.
-Overall I'd like to see return to the elements of the original that have been lost a bit. Intense action, innovation, cool collectibles and an overall feeling of mystery exploring an interesting world. I'm hopeful some of this return to the roots feeling will be in Zelda U/NX
