Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer: It's OK If PC Gamers Don't Want An Xbox One

Wait, are these games cross buy? Are they cross save? Because I think that's pretty stupid if they aren't. They are most definitely disconnected islands without anything to connect them. The PS4 isn't "connected" to the XBO just because they both run Destiny. Shared software has nothing to do with a shared platform.

I'm hoping someone will come and tell me I'm wrong.

Quantum break is cross buy if you pre order it. Would be incredibly stupid not to have cross save etc.

I think they're actually going towards PC an xb1 being the danger platform.

I think they are going for the Xbox = PS and Mac approach...

Its bizzare when you think about it.

MS could create something at par with Steam's service with a fraction of the m oney they've put into Xbox.

i think they are afraid to go up against Steam

Microsoft tends not to have much goodwill with PC gamers, poor support, closed PC devs or shifted them over to Xbox only. (Anvil, Lionhead, Ensemble, FASA, just to name a few.)
They tried the Xbox on PC thing once before... PC Gamers laughed and ridiculed them for it. Ironically... They seem to be making almost the same mistakes again, it is difficult to displace Steam as people genuinely love it, Microsoft's PC gaming attempts? Not so much.
High price, poor support, tons of DRM, no PC centric features like modding. = They won't get anywhere unless Microsoft pulls their finger out.

I feel its more like they dont care.

You're basically saying a company that has taken on on Google, Apple, Nintendo, and Sony is afraid of a PC games distributor.

If anything, maybe they dont see Steam as a threat. Steam users are generally Windows users.

Google is stomping them, Apple is putting up a fight, they got Ninty and they are trailing behing the PS brand. Honestly outside of the Windows OS they dont really compete well with there other products

You're missing the point and I don't want to argue what MS does well (they are still a very profitable company for reasons outside of Windows).

You said you think they're afraid of Steam. I'm giving you examples of much bigger companies MS goes head on with.

Jesus christ the only thing that could defeat Windows XP was Windows 7 and that trashed 8 and its still 80 : 20 in favor of Windows 7 vs Windows 10 (i.e w7 sitting pretty at 50+ marketshare and W10 at about 11)

It really just depends how much MS wants that market, we're talking about the same company that spent billions on Skype, Minecraft, Xbox, Bing, etc. At the very least they could have a massive userbase that also uses Steam if they so desired. Its easy to be a user when its just an app.

It's not how much you spend.

There is a big difference between being an option and the option.

And creating something at par with Steam is probably gonna cost a lot of money. Also to encourage support, get exclusives on the service, etc.

Anyhow, Windows Store is basically what MS should be doing. Its a market place for video, music, and games. They just need to put lots of their games on it to get people using it. They don't need ot compete with Steam, its a service that thrives on Windows.
