Forums - Website Topics - Statistics: VGChartz posting habits from 2008 to now

What do you think drives VGChartz activity most?

Console sales 30 36.59%

Quality of software 1 1.22%

Anticipation of future releases 12 14.63%

The quality of the websit... 5 6.10%

Frequent data updates 4 4.88%

I have no idea 13 15.85%

Something else 17 20.73%

Total:82

I think there's one part where everyone can agree, VGChartz struggles when there's not much to discuss sales-wise. By 2011 there was a clear winner and the battle between the PS3 and the 360 stopped being as interesting. The same thing happened now with the 8th gen consoles, but much sooner. The lack of numbers didn't help much, either.

When the regular sales slowed down the quality went down. Most people lived for those weekly sales mang, specially in the holiday season! I dunno why and what it is but since a few years ago the site started attracting a lot of young people who aren't interested in sales.

All we need to do to fix it is allow nsfw avatars and sigs everywhere. It will attract plenty of new users cause sex sells

As someone who has a long time gf and is not sexually frustrated I'm glad the site cut out all that shit.  There was nothing worse than the days where I had to constantly look over my shoulder while browsing Vgchartz.

I doubt most people who have lewd sigs and avatars are "sexually frustrated." I never understood what people have against seeing girls with skin... Virtually every popular site allows it yet this one doesn't for some nonsense reason. Yes there are limits like there should be but compared to many sites including tech sites, vgc is generally more strict. Heck, I never had to censor my name in professional tech sites but in vgc, I did for whatever reason.

If anything, vgc should just implement an option which allows everyone to not be able to see a specific or all users's avatars and make the site a lot more free than be strict...

Message boards aren't what they use to be. I remember back in like 1999-2002, message boards and chat rooms were as popular as Facebook and Twitter. They were THE way to communicate online. Not so much anymore.

Because they are images that most of the human race would look at me like I'm a weirdo if they seem me browsing this site.

I'm ok with all that shit and people being into it but I don't want to be judged for visiting this site.

I'm happy they're keeping it about gaming and not lewd and sexually explicit images. I'm sure there are plenty of sites for that,  which will keep those individuals satisfied.

Fanboy wars. The greater the controversy, the greater the response.

You had the most activity when Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 users were arguing with one another. There were no clear cut "winners" in the console war during its first few years of last gen. So most every fringe console supporter had to get their licks in. Now, the PS4 is the "sure win" and it's hard to deny that even with most diehard Nintendo and/or Microsoft supporters.

At the end of last gen, the PS3 and Xbox 360 were pretty much neck-to-neck so it gave both camps for something to keep cheering when this current gen started. And when there was finally no denying that Microsoft seriously shot themselves in the foot during the first year of the XboxOne, the arguments finally started to die down because all but the most committed Xbox supporters didn't have a leg to stand on for their denial of the PS4's success.

I've seen some of the most adamant Xbox supporters on this site alone eventually turning to the "dark side" this gen. Also, others have almost stopped posting entirely because it's hard to post about and argue for a console they support that's been knocked out of the limelight. Now, you have less controversy, less arguments, less postings.

Damn straight!!!  I've been married for 21 years, has sex most when I want, been banned for "racy" avatars, secure in my sexually, started and is strongly maintaining a NSFW video game swimsuit thread (please check out link in sig - a shameless promotion), a proud user of this site...  What was your point again...?  ;)

See that shouldn't be the thing tho. When I was at work for example, I see people go on sites like facebook all the time and more often than not, someone on facebook has a really hot picture which someone posted. So by that logic, everyone who goes on facebook is a weirdo? I doubt it...

And its thinking like that which makes this site fall behind every others. While every other site is integrating twitter and facebook which have a whole whack of users with weird usernames and lewd avatars, vgc doesn't. And what this restriction does is that it adds to the list of reasons users aren't coming to this site as frequently as they used to... If this site was like this when I came around and I got banned, I would never have even bothered to come back again. And considering how much I post, I only have had a positive effect on the site for the most part.

If site a, b, and c is similar to site d but site d doesn't allow what site a, b and c does, then most people would not go to site d and that is exactly what is happening here imo. And what that results in is less ad revenue which results in more ads which results in more people using adblock which results in less frequent numbers since this site isn't making enough care worthy revenue.

Now I am not saying that allowing what was once allowed will fix it asap but being more relaxed like other sites is what this site needs in order to survive. Otherwise, it will only get worse and worse.

Here i didn't read past the first few lines but,  at one point this site was plastered with very explicit anime and real life people soft porn. You might be ok with that but I'm not and most people aren't.

Well there should be limits but the current limit is way to harsh compared to the othersites. All I am saying is, lower the limits to match the other sites + the option idea and it should be a win win for everyone. Otherwise, we will continue to see users not joining the site and eventually, ioi will shut vgc down cause its not making enough ad rev...
