Only reason most of my games are digital on 360 and Xbone is because of constant disc drive failures I get with Xbox consoles.

Were you using the disc drive as a cup holder or something?

Lmao, if it was my fault i wouldn't even complain about it. But for whatever reason almost every Xbox console I buy the disc drive stops readings discs. Drives me nuts. I'll probably buy a new Xbone soon enough though, after I buy the PS4 (end of March hopefully)

It's like your house is cursed or something. It's like "YOU CAN NOT USE YOUR XBOX!"

This is the habit Ive gotten into:

- Wait a few days after a game releases
- Read reviews/user impressions/videos/twitch streams
- If I decide to buy, I do it while I'm at work, and the game downloads while I'm there
- Get back to my apartment and its ready to go

Ive found it quite convenient.

EDIT: I don't think discs are stupid, for the record.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

No, MS was being anti-consumer by trying to force 24 hour check-ins, always online, highly restrictive DRM (not being able to play, trade in or sell any used games or let a friend borrow any games.) onto gamers. They were trying to push gamers into just buying just digital games eventually. Fuck that.

I like options. The option to buy a game digitally or on a disc from a retail store. I like the option of being able to do whatever I want (for the most part) with the game after I bought it. I want the option to play any old game I want when I want. I don't want to have to rebuy the game. I don't care for any one size fits all approach. Physical games are actually much cheaper than digital copies because the prices scale to the real world and you can trade in games for it.

Whoever wrote that article doesn't have a clue about gaming. He's bitching about putting a disc into a console.

correct. i don't see why we would not go back to cards.

they get cheaper and cheapert. the size and speed is getting bigger and faster
and we don't need huge consoles just because of the disktray

Not to mention:

1. No extra moving parts means less chance of failure.

2. Easy enough to include multiple slots to allow people to keep more than one physical game in the system simultaneously.

3. Technology not really limited in size for given hardware - the same reader that would work for a 16 GB card should work, ultimately, for a 1 TB card (when they eventually happen - assuming there's no physical size issue for the card size chosen).

4. Able to have RAM as well as ROM, so you could have on-card data storage, allowing you to (for instance) take your unlocked characters in Smash NX to a friend's house without issue.

I haven't traded in a game in forever BUT if I do buy a game that I don't like, it's nice to know I can sell it for store credit or something.

That never happens. Look at 4k BD discs. They don't work at all in a BD player. Because companies never allow future options, in their intial setups. You can't read a 64GB+ SD card in SDHC or SD card readers. You need a SDXC reader. Another example: If you have 30FPS HD video on a BD discs. You aren't allowed to have the file in progressive scan. It has to be interlaced (1080i). All because, when they were making the BD plans. 1080 30 and 60 fps couldn't be in Prograssive. Due to them wanting to save on bandwith. But now, no one gives a shit.

Physical is the only way to go. I want the ability to sell my game when finished with it, or just let a friend take it for a week. I would never purchase a system that was digital only.
