Forums - Microsoft - Lionhead Shutting Down. Fable Legends Cancelled.

They need more studios though :P not closing more studios..

Is MS trying to be despised by the community again ?

I'm pretty gutted tbh.
They didn't even know about this 3 effing days ago.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Wow, shutting down 2 studios? Microsofts biggest flaw is their lack of 1st party studios, they should be opening more not closing them down!

They killed Ensemble studios a while back, though it's still surprising to see them shutting down yet another studio, especially one they touted DX 12 with.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Jus got the Beta key last week. Didn't have time to install it yet. My friends said it was OK and fun.

Thats a realy weard development. I wonder if this is related to last week verbal skirmish with Epic and WUA.

The team seemed unaware of this on the 4th March:

Makes you wonder why they shut it down. Reminds me when Stigs team was let go at Santa Monica. Maybe the team was taking too long and weren't making enough progress so MS cut their losses.

Shame, they provided some much needed variety in Microsoft's first party portfolio. Wasn't looking forward to Legends, but always hoped there would be a 'proper' Fable again in the future.

Makes no sense, unless Xbox is seeing major budget cuts.

Sad day for British videogame development.

Bloody hell, this is really bad. Fable is only MS exclusive that I really love, despite 3rd one being weak. I hope at least IP survives in the hand of some other studio.

Did not see that coming.

Got my latest email with progress on the Fable Legends Beta yesterday...

I speak for all of Xbox when I say that despite this news, we remain committed to the development communities in the UK and Europe, and Xbox will continue to support new IP and originality in the games we offer on our platforms, whether they’re AAA blockbusters like Quantum Break from Remedy, adventurous new IPs like Sea of Thieves from Rare, or unique new creations from independent developers like Moon Studios with Ori.

WoW MS laying off 2 European Studios the same day and then they are saying they are commited to Europe, Really?

Not MS's fault. Blame the government. There is no reason to have a studio in the UK. Just like how Sony closed 3 UK studios last year.

And this is just a prime example of why a first party is just a liability. Unless you got a goldmine of a franchise, the best way to go is go for 3rd party exclusives, like Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break.
