My original idea to solve the problem hurting just who likes to be hurt.

While I'm not a fan of the locked DLC thing going on with amiibo lately, calling it the worst thing to happen this generation is a long-shot. Paying to play a game online takes the cake for that. Up until recently, amiibos had zero impact to the overall gameplay of games like Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, etc. Super Smash Bros U did offer a unique amiibo functionality that wouldn't exist without it. I do agree that Twilight Princess HD and Kirby are taking the amiibo functionality towards the wrong direction. It should be like Pokken Fighters where the amiibo only gets you instant use of the "DLC" but you could still unlock it without the need of an amiibo.

They want to give people who buy the amiibo extra stuff, so it just gives them more out of owning it: That's where it comes from. So people will complain about having "locked content" And people will complain about not having those extras for the amiibo they bought. I love amiibos and I think you just have to suck it up and either buy or not buy them. Cause they definitely aren't going anywhere. |
But you all, and someone else I couldn't find again without reading again this big thread suggested me an even better solution, although it will work only with NX if it will be as powerful as 3rd parties and power whores desire.
We must distinguish two kind of hardcores, "classic" hardcores that like games rich of contents, gameplay and often, but not mandatorily, complexity and not dumbed down difficulty, while they may care or not for HW power (they care if it allows more contents and complexity), and technophile hardcores, power and graphics whores.
Casual won't care muich about DLCs and figurines, they'll buy some of them if they like them without pondering over what it means for gaming.
And they don't care about ubergraphics, they're happy if graphics are "good enough" and not jagged.
Classic hardcores HATE DLCs and locked contents, they want their game to be rich of contents, gameplay and sometime complexity too, they accept pay EXPANSIONS, that add new missions and areas, not that unlock contents already developed when the game was launched, but locked out to make people pay for them too later.
Finally, graphics whores are the ideal target for my idea: they are happy to spend more money for the latest and most powerful device, so here is the plan to make them pay for Amiibos.
With the new, powerful NX, particularly the home one (or the home docking station, if it will be such a thing, offering a full power GPU, video output for TVs and monitors, connectors, additional storage, maybe, and multilple controllers to the portable one), game related AMIIBOS COULD BE USED TO UNLOCK THE GAMES' HIGHEST RESOLUTIONS AVAILABLE. I'll write asap to Nintendo to give them my suggestion.
