I would love for this to be true. But for the time being I wont put much stock in to this.. because I am pretty much done with being disapointed =)

End of January Ancel and Tim Shafer were talking about BG&E2. Schafer did a quick name drop of Miyamoto assuring Ancel that BG&E2 would be 'good enough for Miyamoto'.

Something tells me Ancel shared it off-the-record with Shafer that BG&E2 was going NXclusive. And Tim then tipped his hand to the rest of us.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

This is really suspicious, I don't know the context, but naming Miyamoto out of nowhere...

Especially when it's supposed to be Ubisoft pulling the strings.
Ubi may not have thought the project was going somewhere but let it go on in development hell, just so they wouldn't lose Ancel. So when Ninty walks in to green light it and gives Ancel total creative freedom for it - everyone walks away happy.

Rayman was not funded or produced by Nintendo. It was never even considered an exclusive. It's more exact like the Bayonetta 2 situation: SEGA canceled Bayo2 and Nintendo stepped in to safe it. And it's similar to the Devil's Third situation.
They did it with Bayonetta2 too, it was the exact same situation. It seems very clear that Ubisoft doesn't care about Beyond2. So Nintendos intervention could be the last chance for this game. Furthermore this is the kind of game that fits perfectly for a Nintendo console. |
They were supposed to fund the publishing of Rayman Legends in Japan and yes of course it was considered as exclusive before Wii U flop
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m

i agree with you, my friend :)

Even looking beyond Beyond Good & Evil, it can't be expected that Ubisoft will treat Nintendo systems with respect because of a token of goodwill from Nintendo. The opposite is more plausible to happen, that Nintendo will have to spend money for almost everything afterwards, except the crap games that Ubisoft wouldn't dare to publish on any other platforms. |
Though I'm not the biggest Ubisoft supporter (hell, I hate them, they're rubbish), Beyond Good & Evil is the only great title they have, imo. With the first Prince of Persia. So I think the money is well invested, at least, quality-wise. And, to the second part, if Nintendo has to waste (more than spend) money in Ubisoft games... I hope they don't do that. I mean, if Ubisoft wants their games on the NX, cool, but don't ask Nintendo to pay for them.
EDIT: I forgot about Rayman games. They're cool.
| RolStoppable said: Really? As in a 5% chance instead of a 1% chance? That would be far more likely, but it wouldn't change anything in the big picture. Look at it from another angle. BG&E is much closer to the style of the most popular Nintendo games than it is to the style of the most popular Ubisoft games. It isn't unlike adding Rayman as exclusive to a Nintendo system. I know that BG&E is a fan favorite on the internet, but that's not hard to accomplish when the vast majority of those people didn't pay more than $30 for the game. Nevermind that it's the popular thing to do to rally behind a commercial failure. Bayonetta 2 at least broadened the portfolio, so throwing money down the drain could be considered to be worth it. But BG&E2 would be adding another Nintendo-like game to a platform that will have a lot of Nintendo games anyway. Even if commercially successful, it's not going to entice third parties to make games like that on their own (i.e. without Nintendo's funding). |
Purely based on the aesthetics of the last BG2 teaser, it looks absolutely nothing like any of Nintendo's most popular games. I'm not actually talking about the original at all. I am speaking on the sequel in isolation, because it looks much more mature and gritty than the original, not unlike what Square did to Tomb Raider after the reboot.
So yeah, I do think that BG2 would change a lot in the big picture and yes, I do think that it will, if commercially successful, entice third parties to make games on their own. Not by itself, but along side other exclusive content of its ilk.
| twintail said: get back to me when a bigger named game comes along and Nintendo funds it. Its good for fans of the original who would like more. Good that Nintendo will try get games outside of their IP pool onto the NX. Not much else really. |
I think it is a big game, and I don't think the sales of the last game will indicate the sales of this one. Plenty of franchises come into their own upon new iterations, and since they are likely to drop the "2" just for marketing purposes they can make this off to be a new game.
This game looks much different, much less Zelda-Clone, and much more gritty than the original, female representation is in right now, and nothing screams today's story driven market like a little 1984 and Big Brother.
There's no reason this won't be a big game. Especially not the sales of a game from 13 years ago. This may as well be a reboot.
Of all the rumors of what and how and why's of the nx, this is the first to really peak my interest. Would be a good first step to securing me as a customer.
Tho I'm very skeptical.
