I think he meant that the end of cell phones for Sony is coming. They are getting out of that business cuz their phones suck and don't sell.

True but he's also right that there's not been any innovation in smartphones in years now. |
There haven't been more innovations in TVs or cars in decades either. Nevertheless they weren't replaced yet.
The "end of smartphones" can only come if something better replaces it and all its tasks/features. There is nothing remotely versatile in the mobile sector to replace the smartphones on the horizon, so they will stay on the market for a while.
It isn't impossible but I doubt it. Anyway the future will be really interesting!
even though i really have no more hype for smartphone since a year ago, unlike before that i used to keep on searching for which better model to buy next after changing one every few months...
but still, i don't think it will be replace by something new for at least another...... 10 years??

I said this to Zhuge. I am convinced that mobile will see a financial collapse in the next 48 months. Investors will see that the market is shrinking and many people now feel that annual upgrades are a racket and want simpler and longer lasting durable phones that are cheap. I Also feel that smart phones make people duller and people lose a lot of time on these devices needlessly. Leading to daily inefficiency. The world will be better off with less of these devices that are an extension of ones vanity in most cases.

Tbh, I thought the same when the thread title pop up. Considering the market is dominated by Apple and Samsung, they quitting would not be a surprise to me.

There's a convergence with Smartphone power. You don't have to upgrade your phone every year like before. My Z1 today will last me another 2-4 years. My iphone 3G didn't last more than 1 year before an OS updgrade slowed the phone down to being unusable.

Call me crazy but I'd love a smartwatch that replaces my phone.
