Did Street Fighter V bomb?

Need more info on sales before making a good judgement, but this game can possibly do pretty good in the long run. The way I see it, if Capcom is going to continue to support the game, and if they were to make it so that you can simply download any future versions like Super or Ultra for free, then the future is bright.

bet: lost

I despise the way the game was released and the apologists working hard over it, but I don't want the game to bomb. Not only would that put future SF games into jeopardy, but that would make Capcom a lot less willing to take risks on other fighters. They used to make a lot of good fighters. I want a Marvel vs Capcom 4 that plays more like the original MvC than the two sequels. That will never happen if SFV is a failure for them.

It could also make them more hesitant to make other risky games outside the fighting genre. I will buy down the line. I know they (supposedly) aren't doing "super ultra" editions with SFV or whatever, but there will just be corresponding updates instead. So instead of a Super Ultra SFV Arcade Edition SKU, you'll just have a content update. I can wait for those and pay less.

It's understandable that it didn't do much first week considering how it launched. I can see the game having great legs though.

It could have splatoon type of legs, since it'll be getting updates for awhile, that said amazon isn't everything but it's bombing hard on it. It's already discounted to 50 dollars and it's rank keeps falling (around 48th hourly chart). For comparison both FE games are at the top (conquest being higher than even far cry ps4 sku)

Too early to tell. Let's wait some more official figures and see if it will actually have legs. Tho I think it will: content will arrive constantly, they said they plan to keep promoting it, there are bundurus and they will keep hosting tourneys. I think it will all help to promote it in the long run.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

No, it didn't. Fighters aren't as big as they were in the early 90's so when you look at unit sales, you need to view them differently.

laughs while holding onto Super Smash Bros. games

Don't need ssb to argue. MKX is way up. Over 5mil and counting. KI is also very popular

I guess Capcom didn't get the memo either lol. My guess is that they figured they could ship based on IP rep alone and that didn't happen. Social networks have such an impact of games these days that getting away with shipping a hard core title half finished is almost impossible.

Ok, but how exactly does that refute my point? I'm not saying your wrong, but given what we have, it seems like SFV will not even come close to SFIV numbers (which did 8 million btw).

Well, a "bomb" is when a game doesn't recoup it's budget. I know it's a term that is used loosely these days but that's the actual meaning being it. If they make money, it's not a bomb.

Also, I didn't know I was "refuting" you? The title of the thread is asking a question and asking us to answer it in our own way. I just gave my answer lol

Need more sales data but SF isn't as big as it was even 10 years ago.

You weren't gaming in the early 90's like I was. MK, SF2 and MK2 were as big as any GTA game back then. That's what I meant by "not as big as they were in the early 90's".

As much as I love Street Fighter, I hope it did bomb. What Capcom pulled with this game must NOT be financially condoned. It doesn't matter that Sony backed it - there's no way Capcom will be happy about this.

Now hopefully they will learn from this when the NX launches with Nintendo vs. Capcom, and the game follows the Killer Instinct platform model, only improved. Maybe 12 characters at launch for $20. 6 Nintendo and 6 Capcom. Allow it to be playable completely for free by cycling through characters every month just like with KI. Allow people to purchase characters individually like with KI for cheaper. Release updates to the roster every year as DLC. Do it once a month just like KI. Be what SFV should have been for the fighting game genre.

Or do what MKX did and just launch off the bat content full. I don't care at this point just make the game real please.

Too early to say but I am disappointed in the amount of folk who try apologizing for it despite hammering other games for coming out the same way.
