I just realized something: Titanic had a rerelease. These numbers INCLUDE the rerelease. So, Force Awakens has already beaten Titanic, if you take that into account.

The ones that studied about it, and since I have been on an audiovisual university for 5 years (and working as a director assistant and camera in London later), I meet quite a lot of that people, nobody has James Cameron as a rol model because James Cameron is far from an artist, he makes products, and he lacks creativity and personality in almost all of them, he mixes well known cliches with the highest technology, he uses all the manipulative resources it has to create hollow emotions and he is able to spend 100m dollars in the marketing alone, that's mostly the reason of his success. 

Negative ghost rider. Plenty of people in the industry enjoy Titanic. You have to remember that these same people "in the know" produce more turds than hits. It's become cliche to criticize cliches at this point. You can't hardly make anything new without stepping on other people ideas and works with the sheer amount of media we have at this point.

There are some interesting comparisons to be made. Some fun numbers.
Titanic when released was the most expensive movie ever made( TFA had the same budget 18 years later)

Titanic had an estimated 128million tickets sold in its very long run. (Domestic only) TFA is the fist to top 100 million since then and in 37 days vs 87.

Titanic even without the release was #6 on the all time adjuster domestic list. TFA is currently 11th and might get as high as 9th.

Star wars is one of the few franchises with very strong staying power at the domestic box office. There are 5 movies in the top 18 all time adjusted. While most movies high up the list are stand alone movies or the first. Star wars has 4 of its later movies way up there. The next highest noon original movies are Jurassic world in the 24th spot and Shrek 2 at 35 that's also a rarity where the sequel performed better than the original (still talking adjusted domestic )

But I'm talking about Star wars in general, and even then, a good reboot of one of the best movies ever is already better than Titanic.

By your logic Titanic is also better than most of the biggest classic on cinema because won more awards and made more money. And thats because your logic is very flawed. But again I woudn't be surprised If you think Titanic is better than something like the Clockwork Orange, Blade Runner or City of God. I wouldnt be surprised at all.
