Forums - Gaming - Street Fighter 5 (ps4) VS Pokken Tournament (WiiU)! Who Will Win In sales Per region Lifetime?

pokken will win everywhere. Pokemon is much, much, much more popular then sf.

Well, Pokémon is still very popular, and the games actually has better pre-orders than Street Fighter V on amazon.fr (didn't check the others countries though).

But this isn't Pokemon. This is what a lot of us are saying. SFV is the next iteration of the SF series. Pokken is a spin-off fighting game, it's not the next Pokemon on a handheld console.

If people asked, "What would sell more, SFV or Pokemon *insert random colour variations here*?" everyone would laugh at them for coming up with such a stupid comparison.

For your info, in the UK, SFV is 9th, Pokken is 17th. 4 of the top 5 are made up of the same game essentially though (Division).

Hmm, pie.

SF never moved much copies. SF4 on Ps3 is tracked with 4 million. Mortal Kombat X just sold 2,6 mil on Ps4. I doubt SF5 will sell more then 3m. Pokken will be bought by the smash fanbase, pokemon fans, tekken fans...

For the hyrule warriors argument, 2 things.

1. The game was over 1mil by years end (2014). Game is probably a little higher now than before. So it could be anywhere between 1.2mil to 1.8mil. We won't know Intill tecmo gives us figures.

2. Importantly your using 1mil, but you have to look at it differently.  Let's go with 1.2mil. That 1.2mil isn't for the fighting genre but a much more niche one. It's a DW game. Most of the games sell 300k-600k WW Lifetime. I think only 5 games sold over 1mil. DQ warriors and hyrule warriors being 2 of them (both spin offs to popular franchises).  Highest selling DW game is around 2.3mil lifetime. So 1.2mil is really good.

Fighting genre is down  overall significant ly compared to its prime (though it's recovering from last gen Imo) I think pokken will do well, but it all depends on a number of factors. SF5 has all the advantages, but it's not 100% guaranteed yet!

1.2 M is fine for Hyrule Warriors. Their development is considered lower budget compared to other games. Thats what makes Nintendo and Tecmos venture profitable. They stick to the classic method of making games which is finding ways to create fun and a challenge out of simplicty. Where I worry about people applauding those types of sales is because of a future which is beginning to dictate that as technology increases so too will development costs. When someone says 1.2 for a Sony or Microsoft exclusive everyone cringes because those games generally have larger budgets. Nintendo has been smart with pacing how they use their power and resources to maximize profit, but I think some changes are due.

The fighting genre has been down but we dont know where the new generation stands with fighting games just yet. The last Street Fighter game sold very well (but not well enough to save Capcom from their other investments). Pokken is traditional fighter with a Pokemon name, so that might hurt it a little. Thats all I am saying. having a traditional fighter on the Wii did zero favors for Tastunoko vs Capcom (which I thought was one of the best fighters of last gen).

Lets hope for the best.

SF V would outsell Pokken on all regions. It would only be close in Japan. The number of PS4 owners would come into picture. So it is really a hard guess.

If Pokken Tournament comes into 3Ds. then ask yourselves who you think can get better sales.

Street Fighter 5 will outsell Pokken everywhere. Reasons?

-PS4 has a higher user base already & the gap will only get much bigger (in Japan it will surpass U too)
-PS4 still has life left in it which will be beneficial for longevity while the U should be replaced within the year
-SFV should get better reviews (just a guess)

Wii U has a much higher attach rate for it's big games than Ps4, so install base doesn't really make a difference when it comes to big games.

This game is coming out in, more than likely, the last full year and maybe even less than a full year of the Wii U's life. The chances of it also being released (either physically, digitally, or remastered) for the NX is high, in my opinion, so the Ps4 having a longer life ahead of it doesn't really matter if it comes out on the NX, unless you JUST want to compare Wii U versions of it to ps4 versions of it.

Honestly don't know on reviews. I don't typically buy fighter games other than Smash nor do I pay attention to their reviews so you could be right there for all I know.

SFV off to a weird start. It'll be around 40k-60k FW in Japan. UK it was 24k FW. I can only imagine pokken sales in UK if sfv didn't do that we'll :/

I think people are overestimating SFV.  I dont think it will sell much better than Mortal Kombat X, and that one has sold 2.35m on the PS4 (according to VG)

Now Pókken, on the other hand, doesnt have much competition on the fighting genre on the Wii U.  I think it will sell close to Super Smash, which (according to VG) has sold 4.76m

Okay, now we have some numbers for Street Fighter V

UK : 24k (vs 88k for SFIV)
Japan : 42k (vs 83k for SFIV)

Looks like it's underperforming everywhere. Japan is already a win for Pokkén, we'll see for the rest of the world.

so we got US numbers, retail 200k-210k first month

SF is pretty much a dying franchise. Killer Instinct and Mortal kombat might surpass it.
