There is no need to take it so badly, mods come and go from here, what you don't want to do is a big explosion of emotion regarding getting turned down one time, could be a spot next time, and from what I seen there probably was 50+ applications sent to the mod team so if they were to send 50+ emails of "you clearly can't take rejection of an idea" or "you're gonna be busy doing something soon it wouldn't be a good idea" that would take them ages, whereas right now the current mod team are going to be showing the new guys the ropes on how to permaban us all :)

Not being a moderator =/= Great user tho, don't suggest it means that because yeah, the great majority of those who applied are obviously not going to be mods here. We all good people!
