Forums - Sony - PSVR Listed For £350 By Swiss Retailer

People will continue to misunderstand VR as long as they keep using the 'impulse buy' argument, rather like people continue to misunderstand PSNow because of the 'BC' argument. This is not aimed at an impulse buy market, this is aimed at the hardcore/hobbyist market. Mainstream is not the target, it's the end game, and that endgame is many years away. It's not designed to sell PS4s, it's designed to sell to people who already have PS4s. This is why Sony are positioning it as hardware in its own right and NOT a peripheral.

That price could very well be.

It's pretty safe to assume that prices for PSVR will start at some value between 299 and 399. Market research suggests that 299 would be the sweet spot, but personally I rather expected 399, so 349 would be positive news for me.
They don't mention it, but there will most probably be at least two PSVR packages, with the cheaper one including only the headset. 349 would most probably be that cheaper package, I expect the full package to be 100 more.

Vanilla for $300 and +camara +Move $400. That would be great, cuz there are already a lot of ps camaras out there, making them buy another would discouraage a lot.

Because the majority of the fanbase of PS aren't hardcore gamers. I guarentee you, most are casual's who wouldn't give a shit. I know I sound pesimistic, but if its above 199$-249$, it probably won't sell into the millions.

Now like I said, I could be completely wrong. I want to see what kind of software to expect, and the pricing.

Can I say that you are dangerously slipping back into "super6646" territory.

Whats so wrong with what he says?. Do you really think that the biggest part of the PS4 fanbase are hardcore gamers??. You might get that impression if the only ps4 fans you interact with are on gaming forums, but trust me the is a lot of them that doesnt even know what this VR thing is.

O no :O , I disagreed with somebody's opinion. I think barney is making up some imaginary expectation for vr so he can say how much it's going to fail. I think he came here, like a few others, to put negativity on something Sony.

If barney disagrees, which he more than likely will, then he's a big enough boy to talk to me about it.

This man talks sense. Listen to it or else we will tell BraLord to fill your wall with Legend of Dragoon references. Nobody wants that!

Why do people think Sony expect to sell millions? If they sell 500k year 1 at $400 then that's fantastic. If they see 1m units, there will still be people calling it a flop to suit their agenda.
All new tech will be expensive, it's been like that forever. VCR players, TVs, radios, cars, look at anything and it was expensive at one point. It's actually a testament to Sony if they can get this thing out under $500.

Your are right, all thouse first where expensive, but for a reason, they where needed. They where all a stand alone product like a celllphone and stuff ike that. This is not a stand alone product, this requires a $350 machine for it to work and to boot, its only a peripheral that adds very little to the alreaady functionallity of the device, this is worse for the rift, that while costing more also requires a much more expensive machine to work of.

This wont be for hardcore gamers like some say, cuz hardcore gamers will play a game no matter what and paying so much more, just for a diferent point of view will not influence manny. This is in my opinion, to atract a diferent demographic. The ones that get impreses with new tech, no matter how useles it is. like the apple fans.  Peple who buy the "it" device just because. Then hook them into gaming. Use them to lay the foundation while developing the real killer apps and reduce the price to atttract the hardcore and casuals.

VCR player is a standalone device? From my extremely short list from thousands of possible devices, 1 isn't a standalone device. And how were any of them needed? Maybe some are now a staple of everyday life, but were they when they released.

Is it a coincidence that the nay sayers have ignored 2 of GribbleGrunger's posts? Maybe too difficult to reply too. They can't have their personal agenda ruined.

Considering the Rift costs 499 pounds in the UK while it costs $599 in the U.S. if the 347 pound price it true that converts to about $420 in the U.S.

Probably still wrong, but much more realistic.

It's £399 in the UK,

So 399$ in the US?

Was hopeing it wouldnt be more than 349$ but oh well.. still cheaper than the Oculus Rift by a good margin.

actually you should take the Euro price and increase it by 8% to have a US$ price :v

Most likely a placeholder but I'm guessing it will end up around $449-$499 though.

I don't mean to be picky, but if its sold primarily to people who already own a PS4, isn't it by definition a peripheral?
