No mention of the 3DS either. C'mon. If these are to be the pillars of their business at least through 2016, I would have to think they're worth a mention, yet only NX gets a shout out.

3DS sales are waning, and that system is about to be 5 years old. i can see why they wouldnt mention those pieces of hardware. nx and amiibo are actually things to invest in, not wii u and 3ds. nx is their future.

Exactly, the biggest gun for Wii U is revealed (Zelda U). I think it was more about looking to the future with shareholders than trying to state the new console will be out this year.

Wii U replacement can't come soon enough, imo. The Wii U is the first Nintendo console, that made me not want to own it.

Culminative signs that NX is launching somewhat soon, beyond the obvious drying up of Wii U and 3DS software announcements ...

- Iwata says in 2014 that a new hardware concept is already in the works and will take "about two years to realize"
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=818167

- Miyamoto says next Mario will take on a new role for the next system ... a year ago (kinda early dontcha think?)

- Nintendo signs a deal with Sharp for free-form LCDs in 2014 ... which will be ready for production in early 2016
http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/16/7406585/nintendo-said-to-use-sharp-free-form-displays

- Wait a sec, maybe those free form LCDs are for Quality of Life ... except this patent leak shows it's for a game controller or portable:

- Third parties get NX development kits in fall 2015
http://nintendoeverything.com/report-nx-dev-kits-going-out-multiple-devices-has-industry-leading-chips/

- Square-Enix sorta announces Dragon Quest XI (and X) for the NX ... kinda early to be announcing games for a system that's supposed to be 2 1/2 years off? Who the hell was announcing PS4 games 2 1/2 years before its launch?
http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/28/9057139/dragon-quest-10-11-nintendo-nx-ps4-3ds

- Nintendo president Kimishima issues a year end/year start "state of the union" to shareholders. Mentions NX, but zero mention of Wii U or 3DS. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/management/message.html

There's more than a little smoke here folks.

there is nothing here that is even close to being conclusive evidence. iwata could just be talking about a handheld. we have no idea. miyamoto's quote is meaningless obviously. doesnt hold any weight. the lcd productions, we already went over that. squenix could have made that statement for a number of reasons. it says nothing about when the system is launching.

You realise that was said 7 months ago!? So basically talking about NX in near future would be much later date.

Still, what as of now has been said? Nothing.

Why they need to said anything yet, they said they will talk about it in 2016. that doesnt mean at start of year. Do you know how X1 and PS4 were revile and launched, I am pretty sure Nintendo will do something similar with NX this year.

Do you know how GC, Wii, and Wii U were revealed and launched?

Iwata's quote is pretty darn conclusive he even gives a direct time line of "about 2 years". Well add 2 years to May 2014 and where are you?

If your girlfriend says to your face "I'm going to fuck your best friend in Cabo" and you notice they're all lovey dovey around each other and they are both going to Cabo ... I mean yeah you can be upset if she does it, but don't say you didn't have any hint of it coming.

That said there's nothing conclusive they won't other than some people on this board not wanting it to happen, but so what? Since when is that any type of proof either?

The Nintendo fans on this board wanted a ground-up "real" Animal Crossing for Wii U and they got a Amiibo mini-title instead. So what people here want has no basis on what happens in reality.

None of us know, but I sure hope so. What software does Nintendo have to sustain two more years on the market? Because if they don't release a new console until November 2017, that's exactly what they're facing. I really don't see it happening but again, we don't know for sure.

I will say this... having Zelda pushed away into secrecy is super suspicious. We saw the SAME EXACT THING happen with TP back in the Gamecube days and in that case, it turned out to be delayed so it could launch with Wii.

About 4 months away, they better hurry up and announce it. Not much time to get the word out about the new console.

We're not saying 2 years, just not this Nov or Dec. *Edit* besides, it's not like they couldn't announce more games.

They probably could have shown it last year ... the reason they didn't is because Wii U and 3DS sales are so weak that it would have accomplished nothing but gutting an already weak holiday season for both of them.

In other words ... it would been monumentally stupid to show it probably any time before this fiscal year ends (in March). They're probably not going to hit their sales targets anyway, but why make the situation any worse than it has to be.

PS4 was officially announced in June 2013 and launched in November 2013 (same with XBox One), this is quite honestly a better way of doing things. It protects late gen sales of the previous console(s) as much as possible, and consumers sitting around waiting to buy your product don't do a lick of good for you financially (can't play air).
