Assuming the rumors are true and the NX is a home console and not an handheld and is realeasing end of 2016:

It would mean that the Wii U only lasted 4 years on the market, and even less in term of developpment effort seeing that Nintendo practically stopped developping for the Wii U as only Zelda will be released as a new significant game. That reduce the Wii U life to 3 years.

Even the GC had a longer life.

Nintendo could have supported the Wii U for 1-2 more years, realeasing software and waiting to release a new console for the next generation.

SEGA did the same move with the Saturn and it hurt their brand because their consumers wouldn't be sure their next console would be supported.

We still did not got games like a proper 3D Mario, a Paper Mario , an Animal Crossing and Zelda is taking forever to developp and may even be released  on the NX too.

I would be very angry , still waiting for Zelda

Depends. If it is like Xbox to Xbox 360, where they killed a good console in exchange for a great console (RROD problems aside xD), then bring it.

If it is another...eh...attempt at a videoconsole, or it is not supported properly with software, then no. Wait a little bit. No hurries.

I voted "no" as the Wii U is a fantastic piece of hardware and games like Splatoon simply proove that.

Also Splatoon game mechanic - which is my favorite so far and one of the best games ever - won't work without the GamePad.

So I hope that the NX console will support the GamePad. Same for the other Wii controllers (WiiMote/Nunchchuck)...

If NX and GamePad means Splatoon 2.0 - I'm "in" for it. Otherwise I might wait and see whats in for me...

Yes and no.

Yes, because I already spent money on a Wii U.

No, because I would have spent that money anyway.

Honestly, though, people should be allowed to send a code from their Wii U to Nintendo to request a discount on NX. It could be limited to one per console, so only around 11 million-ish of these codes would be eligible.

I doubt that, even with expanding its support into 2018, would have improved the sales of the WiiU. The GameCube had a longer life, but by then the GBA was beasting and selling faster than the original GB, so they were finantially in a good position to keep the GC alive a bit longer. Now, the sales of the 3DS are going down quickly, and even then they double the weekly numbers of the U. They need a relevant console on the market, and soon the 3DS will stop being so.

Sega abandoned the Saturn quickly, but before that they abandoned the Sega CD and the 32X, so the failing of the Saturn wasn't an isolated event.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yeah I'm ok with it. Because they kind of have to.

Products sometimes don't work. They fail. It happens in the business. I don't buy every product with a guarantee that it will be a success. And while I'd love a longer lifespan, I don't expect Nintendo to keep throwing money away to make that happen.

If this is a pattern, then it will be a problem, but so far every other Nintendo console has given me a ton of great games. Even with the Wii U, I have upwards of a dozen worthwhile titles, and I'll probably be picking up a few more (Zelda, Star Fox, Shin Megami, Pokken) next year. So, yeah, I'm ok with it.

Because the 5th year of most Nintendo systems has always sucked and I woudn't mind if the WiiU doesn't have it.

Just kill the system already. I'd be 100% okay with it.

Yes I would be okay. The Wii U has provided me several superb games in its four years (in my opinion, many more that the Wii did in its six years) so I think I have gotten my money's worth with the Wii U.

And as others have pointed out it was not just the Saturn that damaged Sega's brand, it was several other dumb decisions as well.
