MGS is a Japanese made series that uses the a lot of western film methods and tropes. Guaranteed it sells better in the west than Japan. Hideo Kojima is very influenced by the west and you can tell that by how he handled the direction of  the Castlevania reboot. The only game I consider 100% legit Japanese of his is Zone of Enders. Solid Snake was inspired by Kurt Russell as Snake Pliskin.

All I can say is that the PlayStation brand is very popular in Europe.

Its playstation.

People dont feel the same way about the other products from my experiance.

I would say that in general sony has a positive rep, reguardless of product, though.

Metal Gear has been going on since the 80's. We will see how the legs are. Remember that its still pulling sales from five platforms.

I read some article in dec saying Ger was the biggest EU country for Sony indicating PS4/3/Vita sales (HW/SW or simply by revenue) might be the highest in europe, but in overall console sales UK should still be pretty comfortably ahead

that said latest PS4 figures for UK and Ger afaik were 2m sold announcements with UK making it to that number 1.5-2 months earlier as far as I remember

Splatoon recieved the 100k  BIU award in September. I hope VgChartz numbers are somewhat accurate and it has passed 200k in Germany.

Plus XBox is very competitive in the UK so I'd guess its a fair bit bigger overall. 

These charts suggest XOne is closer to Wii U in popularity than PS4 in Germany which is shocking considering the state of Wii U outside of Japan. US and UK seem to be the only places the XBox brand has power.
