Retro has proven that they can be versatile, revitalizing hits in multiple franchises. Monolith so far has mostly just proven that they're awesome at big JRPG's. Both are great, but Retro is still on top in my opinion.

When you co develop every major title sonce you merge, it means a LOT more than being awesome at big JRPG's. Give a little credit.

List of duds made by both ...

Retro Studio:

(Literally nothing so far)

Monolith Soft:

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
Disaster Day of Crisis
(We could even throw in some Super Robot Taisen games, a Dragon Ball Z RPG, and Project X Zone if we argued hard enough on their merits or lack of.)

But haven't they only made (Retro) around 6 games? I can list 12 amazing games Monolith Soft has been a part of off the top of my head.

They've made 7 games so far ... (Retro)

Depending on your definition of "amzaing" or if you count a multi-part game series like Xenosaga seperate games each, they've already made past 12 games ...

Just a reminder, Monolith Soft did not make Xenogears but some of it's former staff did while doing so at Square Soft ...

You do know that Monolith Soft has co developed the last three most significant Nintendo titles they have in their library, right?

Splatoon

A Link Between Worlds

And Skyward Sword (as well as New Leaf)

Lol, two games indeed.

Retro has assisted with games from other teams as well; they helped with Mario Kart 7, Metroid Prime Hunters, and the 3DS port of Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Well, you got your first not so good game out of that list too.

Monolithsoft has always been better than Retro. Monolithsoft is an actual studio, whereas Retro is a label with staff who don't seem to stick around for more than 1 or 2 games.

You can't praise the current Retro studio for Metroid games they didn't even work on.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Got an 85 on Meta and may have already sold a million ...

None of Retro Studio's games went below an 80 on Metacritic while I can count at least 3 games that went below 70 from Monolith Soft ...

Monolith Soft has quite a few below 80 games on Metacritic too ...

That was fatslob, not me. I haven't played Hunters myself, but I hardly think Retro can be held responsible for how it turned out. NST developed the game, the extent of Retro's involvement, (they were deep into making Prime 3 at the time) was essentially consultation on the art to make sure it fit the style of the console Prime games.

No, because Retro's track record is really good (for the most part) whereas Monolith is still has made less games as them
