Mario isn't the reason Mario games sell well, quality is. Even the most casual gamers know Mario games are good.
Super Mario Galaxy, for example, is definitely one of the greatest games I've ever played.
Mario is legendary!
The only one undeseving of its sales (imo) is Mario Hoops 3 on 3. Thats game was just awful. Everything else mentioned above was fully deserving of their sales though I beleive.
Well it's a little of both. Since Nintendo has made sure that (most) games with Mario in it are quality games for their genre, now people look for it and buy Mario games knowing they'll be good.
And i own most them.Mario till the end of time... XD
