The main difference is the timing: -Kojima leaves Konami, create his own studio, then sign a deal with Sony for console exclusivity on his first game and money/support to help him. New studio, everything to make anew, he needs financial support to make an ambitious game, or will have to go the indie/Kickstarter way. Everything is even announced and clear before the development begins and the studio itself is associated to Sony from its creation. Sony announce that the game will come to PC later. By the way, Kojima has been related with Sony for 20 years, his major franchise is heavily associated with Playstation and sells mostly on Playstation (70/30 apparently in the US, surely more than 80/20 WW), and he's a personal friend of several Sony's executives (remember his selfie with Cerny a few months ago?). We can even add that after its huge difficulties with Konami, the whole industry was afraid for Kojima and his future in gaming. -SE and CD create a reboot of an old franchise. SE is not that happy about the sales, but it's good enough and they launch the development of the sequel. They announce and show the game, without saying anything about a possible exclusivity. Pre-orders for all platforms begin, everything runs well: they have SE's money, TR audience, an active community, everything's fine. And then, months after that, MS announce out of nowhere that the game will finally be an Xbox exclusive for Christmas. No clarification about other platforms, even after lots of questions from the fans to SE, MS and CD. They keep the confusion for months and refuse to give answers, and announce the other releases just a few months before launch, killing it even further. Let's not forget that the franchise is also heavily associated with Playstation where its fanbase has been for 20 years, that the previous game sold at least 70/30 on the PS4, and that Phil Spencer admitted buying the exclusivity just to have his own Uncharted, because "what they developed internally didn't have the quality wanted". Do you really fail at seeing the differences between the 2 deals and how they are handled and perceived?
