Forums - Gaming - When was the last time a game's graphics blew your mind?

Oh I forgot killzone mercenary especially and uncharted golden abyss blew me away for a handheld game.

And MGSV. how could I forget that. This is why I love console games. I get blown away so easily and so often. It's great not being a graphics whore that needs the best of the best technically to be impressed. Not a jab at anyone I'm just glad my eyes don't have such high standards.

Last time was last month with Freedom Planet on WiiU. Before that was Bravely Default in September. It happens a lot, as you can see.

Do unreleased games count? Because Cuphead just looks soooo good.
Other than that Yoshis Woolly World always blows me away with cuteness and attention to detail in the art design, like the the little fuzzy glow the Yoshis have around them from the wool fibers sticking out.
I also loved Rayman Ledgends and Child of Light as well as the initial Zelda U reveal.
I tend to be more blown away by interesting art design rather than pure technical capability (even though that certainly plays into it) so I can't really remember the last time a game with 'realistic' graphics blew my mind. I did think Star Wars Battlefront is pretty, but I'm not really blown away by it.

You just made me look this up. The look of this game is basically my dream. Holy crap.

.... now as soon as it comes out on Steam...

Anybody here remember the Arcade days?

Every couple of weeks, there was something mind blowing. It was basically a graphics/innovation showcase.

Yep, then you went back home to load a tape for 10 minutes and have a ton of fun with some ugly pixels.
It wasn't even bad value when you got good at the games. Which is probably why they were slowly replaced with gambling machines. Outrun and Turbo outrun started my passion for racing games. I had this at home

which was entertaining (if the tape would load) or this in town

The last time arcades blew my mind was with the holographic adventure game.

After that arcades disappeared where I lived.

That machine was actually replaced with one of these

It's certainly 3D with very detailed textures and realistic physics. Bah.

Um. Recently INfamous second son and the Order did impress me. Maybe not blew my mind.

Honestly GTA5 when it came out on Ps3 blew my mind a bit. If the better looking Ps4/Xbone version was out at that same time I would have been going crazy.

Skyrim actually blew my mind. The visuals and atmosphere at the time for me. I even played on Ps3.

Trying to think lol.... Uncharted 2 was pretty impressive.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Journey.

The last time I stopped and said "this game looks good" was Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Probably Rogue Squadron on the Gamecube. Such details and lighting compared to the blocky graphics of the prior gen.

God of War 3

One of the reasons I'm getting antsy waiting for SSM to announce a new one

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Blew my mind? If I had to narrow it down to one I would say Call of Duty 4.

#1 Amb-ass-ador

Final Fantasy X, probably. Improvements to graphics have just seemed increasingly incremental since then.
