Forums - Nintendo - How much do you expect Starfox Zero to sell?

Around 800k. Even the game being a remake and not looking very good, the Wii U fanbase is pretty active when it comes to first party games. I might even have a chance of hitting 1m.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I think this game would be much better recieved if it was a $40 game like Captain Toad.

A $60 price point would severely damage this game's sales potential, as I just don't think most gamers in 2016 would drop that kind of money on a game of this type, with these graphics.

Well Captain Toad was cheap because it was just a continuation of a project already started in Super Mario 3D World.

True. I was talking more about consumer perception though. I think a lot of the people dismissing it as a full price title might be open to it as a $40 title.

I chose between 500K and 1 million. Mainly because Star Fox has only shown to be a multi-million seller twice (according to VGC) and we have to take the small install base of the Wii U into account. Though I feel it will air more on the side of 1 million in this case due to it being a Nintendo franchise that hasn't gotten an actual new game for about a decade now and Fox still being visible to your average Nintendo fan (thanks to Smash).

But hey maybe the game can do more than that it Nintendo buckles down with advertising?

This rumor that Nintendo has bad advertising and it doesn't work has to stop. This year Nintendos advertising has been amazing. Ive seen more Nintendo related ads on youtube and tv than i have PlayStation and Xbox ads and a i watch a variety of different channel when i watch TV.

Living in the UK all I see are Playstation and Xbox ads. When I go out or when I watch TV it's always 'Best xbox lineup' or some PS bundle. And when I go to the Cinema I just see PS advertisements in there.

Back in early 2014 (before MK8 came out) I had a couple friends who didn't even know the Wii U came out, I know it's anecdotal but there are definitely places in the world where Nintendo just doesn't have a large presence in the minds of consumers.

Well consumer perception can go fuck itself then, because this is the first real Star Fox game in 19 years for god's sake.

Um, no, I didn't have any relevant comments to make.

Far out I feel old now... XD

somewhere between 750,000 - 1,000,000 lifetime is a safe bet.

Well, considering I played that game for the first time like two and a half years ago, it feels weird to even type such a number. Damn. 19.

But the weirdest thing is that having only been into Star Fox for those two and a half years, I also feel like it's been forever. It's probably because usually when I get into a franchise, I expect it to have this huge backlog of awesome games for me to go back to, whereas Star Fox had um... Adventures, and.. Assault... and that one game that aged terribly, and that other unreleased game that aged even worse.

And the DS one that I don't even dare touching (freaking $10 on the eShop, no way I'm paying that much for that crap) because I know I'll regret it.

Starfox was literally my introduction to video games; it was the game that came with my first console, my SNES, for Christmas of 1994.

Starfox 64 I got in 1999, when I was 10. Played both to the point of knowing every inch of them by heart.

And yeah, don't get Command. I did, and I regret it.

Well no wonder you always defend it so much but yeah, I imagine it was a mindblowing game at the time. It's just that, playing them for the first time nowadays, the original Star Fox is really just an unplayable version of Star Fox 64.

I have a very deep attachment to it, yeah. Then again, I also have a very deeply nostalgic relationship with Starfox 64, as it was probably my most played game from the ages of about 10-13.

As a young teenager, I was crushed by Adventure and Assault. :(

It would be nice if it could outsell Assault, but 1 million seems more likely.

Low enough to where Nintendo sees the sales and goes, "STAR FOX, GET BACK IN THE CORNER. Better luck in another decade."

3. Just 3, you don't deserve my units.

Probably over 1m, give or take. It's hard for a Nintendo IP to sell less than a million on the Wii U, but Nintendo is sure trying with the third version of Star Fox 1's plot and the lack of multiplayer (thus far), so it could easily dip well above or below that.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!
