"That $50 price drop across the board doesn't seem to have had much off an effect on the XB1."

Premature much? It usually takes a few hours to update on Amazon. Which is why it's now at #18.

6 hours since last update:

#02 PS4 Star Wars Standard Bundle (up 1)
#06 PS4 Nathan Drake Bundle (down 1)
#27 XB1 Gears Bundle (up 1)
#49 XB1 Three Games Bundle (down 2)
#37 N3DS (up 13)
#88 WU Mario Kart Bundle (down 13)
#71 N3DS Red (up 29)

PS4 - 4 bundles, 2 in the top 100
XB1 - 7 bundles, 2 in the top 100

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Well he's right that it's not doing all that much, enough time has passed.. At this point the two PS4s were already in the top 5 after the cut started. I wonder if on the final week they'll combine this promo with another free game of choice promo, otherwise the slaughter will continue.

There is no point in following rankings of other retailers because their lists are only for their online business while Amazon = all of Amazon and thus a better representation of general sales

So, let's say the worst thing happens, from the Amazon chart followers perpective, and Amazon ends up being wrong about the NPD result. Although Amazon has been technically wrong twice this generation, both times it was clear before NPD came out that Amazon would probably be wrong: Oct had Halo 5 pre-orders to take into account. April had 2 Xb one skus very close to the PS4 sku, clearly indicating a likely Xb one win. This time round there is nothing on the Amazon charts that would sugest a Xb one win, and given pre-orders favour PS4 for November a Xb one win would be an even bigger disaster for Amazonians than being wrong in a month where hardware pre-orders are not a factor.

Can we continue to realistically sustain an Amazon thread in the face of such a result? Should this thread be more holistic and keep tabs on all online best seller charts through the month as a means for predicting the outcome of NPD?

Or am I being a pessimist and NPD will once again show Amazon is still the most reliable indicator of the NPD hardware winner?

Abandon the Amazon thread?

But what will GribbleGrunger do with himself if that happens?

Maybe we should put all major online retailers ranking on a single thread? Of course, that's a lot of extra work for the one updating the thread. ^^;;

Maybe in the off season that would work when things are quiet. But Oct, Nov and Dec will need dedicated Amazon threads.

X1 lost a lot of momentum when Sony announced that 299$ NDC and star wars Bundles. They waited too long to respond.

The other online retailers don't have monthly or weekly rankings, just "hourly" rankings (or whatever they are really). That is why I think their predictive value for a month isn't really that high. In addition some of the other retailer rankings have shown signs that they are based just as much on Sony/MS paying for marketing space (similar to how you can pay for shelf-space in retailers, you can pay for "site-space" on online retailers). That said, I don't think it should be a problem to just include the links to the other bestseller charts, if there's interest for that.

Momentum is trademarked by MS, they can never lose it legally
