Forums - Sales - October 2015 NPD Thread! Everything is in the OP!

i believe uncharted 4 will give a greater boost to the ps4 than halo gave xbone. For halo month 304k is bad

$50 price cut didn't mean much really considering the bundles for Star Wars and Call of Duty are so close. Why waste money when you can get a free game in a few weeks?

I find it hard to believe that Halo didnt push XOne to the 400k range and that a PS4 price cut resulted in it selling less than it sold in Spetember with no price cut. Theres somethign wrong with these numbers or ppl on America got a bit retarded on this October.

WOW. Cannot believe the down play. Literally had to log in for the first time in months just to comment. Things like xbox lucked out or it only won because ps4 did bad is just a weird thing to say. Xbox won fair and square. Ps4 had a price drop and release of it's own. How many times did I hear about how the ps4's real domination will start when it got it's first price drop? Obviously it isn't helping that much. Just admit that in the US and possibly U.K it'll be close this gen. The ps4, will dominate elsewhere. So what's with the anger? Isn't that enough?

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

The real reason ps4 lost is cause I went round to everyone's house and said wait till next month, to get ms really cocky going into November npd and then boom!! Reality try hits you hard bro.

This was due entirely to [Xbox One and PlayStation 4] generation sales, which rose by 12 percent to offset the 66 percent decrease in hardware sales for last generation consoles.”

So if last years October NPD is

PS4: 297k
XBO: 168k

12%

= 520.8k

and XBO is 304k so PS4 is 216.8k?

because if you increase October 2014 PS4 numbers buy 12% it beats XBO.

What I bolded in your post: this gen's numbers, not just PS4 and XB1. This gen = PS4, XB1, Wii U, Vita and 3DS. Those are all current generation consoles.

Well then is PS4 down or flat? because if it's 2.5% or more up it beats the leaked XBO numbers.

This is the math you have to do as far as I understand: (PS4+XB1+Wii U+Vita+3DS sales in October 2014)*1.12= current gen HW sales in October 2015. Unfortunately that's impossible due to the lack of Vita numbers from October 2014, but (PS4+XB1+Wii U+3DS)*1.12=753.76k. XB1 is ~304k, so PS4+Wii U+3DS=449.76k. With Vita you might add another ~10k, so lets just round it out nice and smooth at 460k total for the PS4, Wii U, 3DS and Vita combined.

Again, this is how it works as far as I understand.

You misunderstood me.  During October the ps4 sold a lot of those bundles aka pre orders.  So those sales are transferred to November.  on top of all that Halo 5 had all its previous pre orders added to October month.  And if that's not enough they slashed the price of the x1 with Kinect by $100 for the final week.

The PS4 sold more in September than x1 in October. It looks like the taken king had a bigger effect for the ps4 than halo 5.

Nah, the ps4's baseline has been higher and September is typically a bigger month for consoles than September.

Really surprised the xb1 managed to win with a ps4 price cut. It looks like the price cut did very little for ps4 sales considering PS4 sold 297k October last year.

How are you surprised when the x1 had: halo 5, Pre orders from previous months,  massive last week sale on Kinect bundle.

And ps4: no pre orders leading into October.  A remastered collection.  $50 cut but 3 of the bundles people were buying won't count until November.

Pre-orders aren't really sales because they can be canceled at any time.

ofc

The ps4 didn't have to go against a price cut.

So all the x1 pre orders from before October that get counted in October are not sales?  Yes of course they are.  It's a fact that many people bought or pre ordered ps4's that won't count until November.

The pre orders that got cancled arent counted as sales.

I bet a lot of people did but lets not forget that the bundles didn't have as much pre-orders as destiny white bundle last year.

The internet is frigin' ridiculous. Sony announce 29.3m shipped PS4s and up their target for this fiscal year by 1m and people call consoles dead just because of one bad month. Jesus Christ, I wouldn't want any of those people beside me in a real battle, they'd be flapping like a schoolboy every time they saw someone with a stick in their hand.

People revel in hyperbole, it's either 100% on, or 100% off.  There seems to be no in between.  I'm curious if November impacted October sales any, the SW/CoD bundles have been charting fairly well these past few months, and the general populace knows by now that Black Friday is the time to get new hardware (if you're getting close to the holiday months, of course...if it's January-June not so much).  Either way, it was pretty much a down month across the board.  I think I say this every month but November will be interesting (As in next month will be interesting heh).

Why is everyone acting like the PS4 won? Announcement made?

Because of the VGChartz numbers and let's face it with the PS4 price drop this NPD is in the bag for Sony.

Guess their bag had a hole in it.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
