I don't know if anyone noticed but with the hardware YoY tool (the one that's not broken) you can see that VGC gives PS4 the NPD win. ~350k vs ~300k. We'll see how that stacks up against tomorrow.  Numbers don't seem right tbh, including global. PS4 with price cut is flat and X1 a neglible (~30k-50k WW) increase with Halo 5?

For PS4 you have to drill down to the weekly numbers. The week before the price cut - w/e 11 Oct - PS4 will be substantially down on 2014, the subsequent weeks PS4 will be substantially up, but that one down week will over the course of the month make the $50 cut seem like it has had less of an effect that it did. The one week we do have hard number for, - 31 Oct - PS4 is up YoY by 27K or 10%. That's possibly a bit on the low side but it is up.

You're forgetting the Japanese price cut, which should offset the YoY decline elsewhere.

You mean 30K? That's only 15K above the previous Japan weekly average. That's not going to be anywhere near compensating for PS4 being substantially down everywhere else in the world. The big boost was the previous week, which counts towards September.

Why would it be substantially down everywhere else in the world? Ps4 had a regular October last year, there was no real boost to cause that.

Hm, doesn't look like Halo provide that big of a boost, or maybe I just expected more.

For the XB One, I thought that was quite a jump in numbers.  Let's be honest, outside of the USA the numbers are never going to be mind blowing now.

Looks pretty much like what halo 2 did for XBox,

Keep in mind people that the 1TB model of the PS4 includes a Free PSTV here in Europe, technically that is at its core a Vita, might well explain the boosted sales figures, as for the completely 100% accurate data of "None of my mates bought a Vita this week so the numbers can't be right" well.... fuck, maybe that's true instead!

The Vita sold 600k in 3 years in Spain. X1 sold 50k in 1 year. Wii U 80k in 15 months. If there's anything that doesn't sell in continental Europe it's X1s and Wii Us, not Vitas. But what do I know, I'm just a lowly European.

Halo boost doesn't seem that intense but hey remember it broke very specific and detailed records.

Yeah. Record breaking alright. Record for the best way to mislead fans during marketing.

I don't know, I think of the manipulation of the data and sheer amount of spin was kind of.. poetic.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

I was under the impression Halo's release would boost the One higher than roughly 143K.

On that note, if that really is all Microsoft got from Halo, I fear that even the marketing rights for Fallout 4 and Rise of The Tomb Raider may not make that much of an impact either. Really would like for the Xbox One to remain competitive with the PS4; November no less.

I live in EU as well so I've no idea what your bolded part is about, as well as that I was more making a reason why the Vita numbers may be as high as they are not disputing that the console isn't selling in Europe.

It's consistent with how MS always announce Halo launches so no need to read to much into it: http://techcrunch.com/2007/09/26/halo-3-breaks-records/
