here is a interesting poll:

Good numbers no doubt but now its time to be critical.
PS4 at the very beginning was outpacing Wii and PS2 easily and now just like that its 5 million behind Wii. PS2 is probably tied with it launch aligned. So its pace has slowed quite a bit. 110M is gonna be hard to pull off if you first have to make the gap up outside of your peak years. I hope that post earlier comparing Ninty and Sonys financials is a misread because if not thats terribly sad for Sony.

It could look like that at face value, but we have to remember that the numbers havent had any real, meaningful updates in quite some time.
With Machina now at the helm and Brett helping him out, we should finally be seeing updated totals and adjustments.
Just give it time

So impressive performances from Sony overall. Majestic performance from PS4. The World needs a console market led by a Playstation console...

From what i can tell here http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/library/fr/15q2_sonypre.pdf - for Sony's G&NS (Game & Networking Services) division it's:
Q2 2015:
Sales: $3~ billion
Operating Income: $200~ million
Q1 + Q2 2015:
Sales: $5.4~ billion
Operating Income: $360~ million
Maybe it's me misreading something though. I'm really not very good at these threads :p

What in the world brought you to this conclusion? Besides your fandom ofcourse.

It's ahead of PS2 in shippings, after nearly 2 years? |
PS2 was out in Japan first for like 9 months. Launch aligned they are probably tied which means ps4 slowed down considering it launched bigger than both Wii and PS2.

Possibly due to a higher rate of market saturation? The Wii was able to tap into a wider audience, (one that has since seemed to move on with the increasing complexity of mobile games, or at least didn't feel the need to go up to 8th gen,) so it wouldn't have surprised me if they were selling to a bigger market in the first place. Considering the PS4's also spent this past quarter as the most expensive of the three consoles, rather than the cheapest, there are inevitable differences between both consoles.
Even it keeping ahead of the PS2 isn't strictly apples for apples, as the PS2 spent its opening months in far fewer regions. Someone mentioned figuring out what the numbers would have been if it's launched in more regions simultaneously, but no idea. xP Even the PS2 had some fantastic circumstances behind it, though, releasing in a sort of transitional period many, MANY months before its competitors could build up steam. The Wii U actually had a similar opportunity to 'set the stage' for eigth gen, releasing so much earlier than its competitors, but due to a number of factors they either weren't interested in, or simply unable to, take advantage of the headstart to any solid degree.
I'm not actually sure the PS4 will attain the numbers of the Wii, let alone the PS2, (probably all boil down to generation length,) but both of those consoles had extremely fortuitous circumstances to bolster their efforts; kind of difficult to get that lightning in a bottle on purpose. =P

Maybe because when market was led by Playstation consoles (PS1/PS2 eras), those ended up being some of the best consoles ever ?
PS1 & PS2 game libraries are just golden.
