I am actually still confused over why Sony for such a long time grouped PS2+PS3 shipments and didn't give separate reports, just like MS does now. Because the PS3 DID sell quite well, just like the X1, so why group shipments?

They only lumped them together for FY 2012. Every other year they gave the separate numbers.
