Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should enter an exclusive deal with Netflix.

The issue being that Netflix would need to agree as well.

They could very easily just say no if Nintendo were to approach them.

But I agree. Nintendo need to be more open with their IP's. I mean cross media here of course.

I don't think that would be an issue at all. Nintendo has some of the most valuable IP in the world, and Neflix is currently lacking in many valuable IP for their platform. If Nintendo went to Netflix and said that they wanted to release shows bases on their biggest IP exclusively on the platform, Netflix would have a heart attack and then say yes while convulging on the floor.

While Mario and Zelda, don't really lend themselves to serial story telling, I think some of Nintendo's more recent hits, Kid Icarus, Splatoon and the recent Fire Emblem games could easily prove popular in some circles as anime series due to their designs alone.

Never understood this point of view. Yes they do, more so than probably any of the other ones. People would just have to deal with the characters talking.

Also, if Nintendo want these shows to be widely successful, they'll make as few of them anime as humanly possible.

Nothing like expanding your audience through TV show content by limiting it only to people that are already heavily invested in your platform.

Wait a minute?

The reason Nintendo are opening up to mobile is because there trying to reach more customers, last thing they need to do is invest in TV shows only for Wii U customers, let alone the tiny userbase that are both Wii U and Netflix customers. .

Edit: Your idea is literally the worst thing Nintendo could do in the TV space.

What are you even talking about? That is not, at all, what I said.

I just don't get it. Why would Nintendo make available all their IPs to a single on demand service? It would be much better to have several deals with different companies. It's more complicated, but far-reaching to license TV shows, films and content to be streamed on Netflix or Amazon Prime as well.

The reason why is because Nintendo would have to fund the majority of it. If you don't have one person reaping the benefits. They won't give you a lot of money. Nintendo would have to basically open up a production company for TV. Or go to a major one.

Now the bigger problem is. What type of shows would they aim for. Kids, teens, adult focused? Will Nintendo want to make a TV-14 Metroid. Or just make Mario CGI shows.

Nintendo do not have a ton of IPs begging to be translated into TV shows. Zelda and Metroid are about the only ones that fit the mold of expanding Nintendo's reach and both franchises would need a visionary teams to adapt them for screen.

Of course they do.

Yes they do. All their IP's can be TV shows/movies. That be like saying a donkey can't be used in a CGI movie. You can adapt their stuff into something. It's just up to the writers that determin how to do it. And hope they get it right.

Kid Icarus is basically Megaman style tv show. Metroid would be a marvel tv/animation/movie style. Mario, a style like over the hedge, shrek. F-zero can be a drama like Fast and the furious, guardians of the galaxy, inital d. Studio Ghibli could adapt any Nintendo product, and make it work. They have done so many different type of stories already. The style that doesn't work is Mario Bros. Movie.

I'm not sure Netflix exclusiveness is great idea, but I'm all for them making movies and animated series with their IPs.

Metroid could be pretty big Hollywood level blockbuster, if they're willing to invest properly (I'm talking Angelina Jolie and Tomb Raider level here).

Not sure about Zelda tbh, Sword & Sorcery setting never really had that much of a big mass appeal in films, there's only few movies that actually made it (Conan, Willow, Dragonheart, LoTR/Hobbit (thanks to books)...am I missing something?), then again it could surprise, but if nothing else it could really raise awareness if done right.

As for Mario - I think Nintendo is loosing ground with kids and everything from animated shows, mobile games to CCGs would be smart, and Mario & Co. should be good choice IMO.

Its not the talking that gets people, it is mostly the fact that each Mario or Zelda game is its own thing. They tried to create a overarching timeline for the Zelda games and they got the mess with the multiple timelines existing that makes even the DC post-Crisis/pre New 52 timeline look reasonable. Having a series with character development or a overarching plot would either have Nintendo be forced to adopt it for future games or ignore it and risk alienating any new audience they might have gotten which would be the whole point outside of money for having a series in the first place.

I don't think they'd alienate anyone. Hyrule Warriors isn't canon. A Zelda show doesn't need to be either. Also, the timeline is a fucking mess. If they wanted it to be canon, they could put it just about anywhere, and it wouldn't mess anything up. Same for Mario. The Mario show/movie could be its own thing too.
