While Mario and Zelda, don't really lend themselves to serial story telling, I think some of Nintendo's more recent hits, Kid Icarus, Splatoon and the recent Fire Emblem games could easily prove popular in some circles as anime series due to their designs alone.

Never understood this point of view. Yes they do, more so than probably any of the other ones. People would just have to deal with the characters talking.

Also, if Nintendo want these shows to be widely successful, they'll make as few of them anime as humanly possible.

Its not the talking that gets people, it is mostly the fact that each Mario or Zelda game is its own thing. They tried to create a overarching timeline for the Zelda games and they got the mess with the multiple timelines existing that makes even the DC post-Crisis/pre New 52 timeline look reasonable. Having a series with character development or a overarching plot would either have Nintendo be forced to adopt it for future games or ignore it and risk alienating any new audience they might have gotten which would be the whole point outside of money for having a series in the first place.
