I have a ton of PS3 games so I would be happy. Mostly would want to play the RPGs.

the heck should i care, pilgrim!
away with the old i say. you want to play the old, keep the old. you have some catching up to do and play ps3 classics, buy remastered. BC is propably the most overrated hardware feature ever. because it can be compensated easily.
i still have a ps3 but pretty useless. in retrospective i should ve skipped the whole 7th gen.

My reaction would be positive. I think less people on interwebs will be downplaying it compared to Xbone announcement.

and while they re at it sony should include a personal buttler for every gamer. serving cool beverages and snacks while playing games. always there to be your offline game buddy, cooperative or competitive (who lets you win most of the time no matter how much you suck). who motivates you in times of dark souls and fetches your controller in case it 'accidentally' fell to the ground. not only that, but an allrounder when it comes to fixing your hardware and peripheral.
and all that for the price of just 9.99. for the gamers...

I still have my ps3 hooked up, and i have 1 ds3 brand new and one working in perfect condition. Along with lots of unplayed games. So i still have good reasons to play my ps3. And until this gen i never did use or care for BC but in this gen with streaming and DVR i would like to use my ps4 to play my ps3 games and i did bring up this when ms announced BC.

I'd be stoked that I would get to try ni no kuni finally since I never owned a ps3, But that's about it , every other ps3 game i was really interested in has been remade/remastered .
That being said if MS announced true backwards compatibility for every 360 game I would buy a xbone instantly . I own about 80 arcade games but nonlonger have a working 360 .

It wouldn't matter much to me since i still own my PS3 (and don't plan on getting rid of it), but i'd certainly be surprised. PS3 emulation on the PS4 is pretty much out of the question, and we know they arn't hiding a cell inside the PS4, so them announcing traditional backwards compatability would be quite the engineering miracle :p
I would be really happy as long as it wouldn't be laggy, If would be pointless if there was any additional input lag, I would mostly be playing multiplayer games and reaction time is key.
