Forums - Sony - 80% of PS4 Owners Never Played Uncharted, Naughty Dog Says

I played all 3 , half an hour of DF, 5 minutes of AT, and just 2 multiplayer games of DD. So I count as played, but I didn't really.

Now I'm older I appreciate the ND story and game design alot more, so I'm loving the Nathan Drake collection. Looking stunning helps alot too :)

Upscales aren't remasters. When you remaster, you recreate the textures @ a higher resolution (which costs more), you can't just open up paint and stretch the textures. The hardest part of HD Development is the asset creation which now must be higher definition, obviously the same holds for remasters, asset recreation is by definition asset creation. Asset Creation is also, typically the most expensive part of game development, some times marketting takes #1.

its the maths.

If 50% of current userbase never owned a PS3. Then half the of the userbase is thrown out the window.

So they are saying 1 of 5 people who have upgraded from PS3 have played the games. Essentially a 20% attach rate which is pretty believeable.

Why is Sony trying to justify a remaster? A large percentage of people didn't play Uncharted on PS3 either.

The Uncharted series is arguably the best games Sony has and they want to make more money with them. That's a good enough excuse for remasters.

Never expected to be that much, I guess I'm part of the 80%. I owned playstation since 1996 and I've never played a single Uncharted game since the game's conception. lol

PS3 owners that didn't played it are included on that 80%.

I'm saying a large percentage of PS3 owners that haven't purchased an 8th gen console didn't play Uncharted either.

Even prior to this article Sony has said this remaster is happening because many didn't play it last gen.

Expectations should be high given its a popular series and mass bundling. Its also the most notable exclusive Sony is pushing this holiday.

Your math doesn't account for people buying multiple consoles if one broke or getting a new slim model. Multiple PS3's being in the household but only 1 game being purchased for all of them to share between their consoles. And more people playing Uncharted than units sold because of borrowing from friends and used games. And that that also 21 million sales could be between 7 million people who bought all 3.

Basically you can't determine shit from looking at numbers and actually have to conduct "a lot of research".


You're right! I am one of those people that bought all three. Chances are that if you played the first one and liked it you probably bought 2 & 3. So it is possible less than 10 % of ps3 owners played an uncharted game. But then again if like you say you factor in replacement ps3's, used games and borrowing the figure could be alot higher maybe above 30 %. My guess is that it would probably be somewhere inbetween around 20%.
