Forums - Sony Discussion - Shuhei Yoshida States That "We ( Sony ) Have Work To Do" When It Comes To Releasing More "AAA" exclusive games.

Pointless thread number 35632...
We do not know how much of Sony's software workforce is tied up with Playstation VR.
But you can be sure they don't want to run into the same fiasco MS has run into with Kinect2, so I'm sure a sizable amount of "Why no AAA games" goes into the VR slot.

I do think they need more big studios. Having closed so many recently was definitly the wrong choice.

Sony does need more big franchises. On that front they have always been weak and have dropped established ones way too easily.
They can't depend so much on Naughty Dog and Guerrila alone. Even Santa monica has been slow with their output. Media molecule is basically an indie dev and Sony Japan is all over the place.

If they managed to foster 2 more studios like ND and Guerrila, they would be in a much better place. This also taking into account that Naughty Dog lost its ability to have 2 teams working at the same time so they are not as dependable as before. After Uncharted 4 we wont hear anything from them for another 2 years.

Sony needs studios especially for those off years.

Bolded: What? I mean is that serious?

Sony doesn't need more studios they have enough and if we are looking at 2016 they put one exclusive game out after another. Like most people said it over and over again the first 2 years are always sparse because sony supports the last gen a bit longer than microsoft and nintendo.

Bolded again: Are you serious Media Molecule a Indie dev?

That really doesn't mean what you said it means.

If you read bewteen the lines, it's exactly what he's saying.

He never said the bolded.

Exactly. You should read what you just quoted. Nowhere there does it say that exclusives aren't as important. He's saying that when there's more competing software on their platform, their own software doesn't do as well on the system in terms of software market share.

Yes, that's right, he never said:

exclusives are not needed as much, due to an increase in third party games being released on the system.

You can see the big difference ... can't you? If not, I don't know what to say.

They are fortunate to have gotten through the first part of the generation without AAA exclusives, but now that they're at this point they'll be fine. Uncharted 4 will be out soon and it'll go uphill from there.

Nintendo/MS are incompetent in a lot of ways, so that helps.

And if you actually read the interview where his full comment is:

"Well, it depends on how you look at things. Typically - it's ironic in a sense, when a platform's doing really well, studio side kind of struggles. It probably has some relationship to these two things. When a platform's doing well, third-parties support it more. So from a pure software standpoint, there'll be more competition. When the platform's not doing so well, our games become more prominent, and we get larger market share within the same platform. Because we continue to support the PS3, in the launch year of the PS4 we had The Last of Us and Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond and so on, many games, we were still working hard. We're just head-down, focussed on delivering the games for the near future. We're happy with how it's going, and we're excited about welcoming PlayStation VR. From a delivering games standpoint, we have work to do. People constantly ask us for the big exclusive triple-A games."

It's pretty clear that he's not saying that.

Edit: And even if you only read the part quoted by the OP you still have to dig damn deep to see what you're reading into this.

I'm glad that sony is not just content with beating the xbox one's line up but instead keep pumping out games for it's fans to live up to the line up of previous gens of playstations.

You're wasting your time. He just wants it to say that.
