Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think Nintendo will somehow celebrate Metroid's 30th anniversary in 2016 besides Federation Force?

They'll celebrate it by not celebrating it of course!

I'm sure they will somehow, but like you said, not with a mainline game.

EDIT: Though I do think FF will suffice. The butthurt over that game is comedy gold.

I'm not sure. With a new Zelda coming out and the only Metroid title coming out is Federation Force with no current development of a Metroid as of now, probably not... There's always the 40th anniversary

We cant be sure about that, we dont know whats on Retro is working. I think development of new Metroid started like Wii U project but was shifted for NX, I expecting announcement next year.

While this news only talks about Metroid Prime, I feel like this is the only Metroid project currently being worked on if any, "Speaking to Eurogamer at E3, Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe said that due to the amount of content such a game would require, it would probably take several years to develop.

"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console," he said."

Well I certainly wouldn't expect from them to say at E3, "in fact we have brand new Metroid game in development but it's for NX, platform that yet need to be revealed". :)

Nintendo keeps their secrets very well and they love to surprise fans.

Well I guess we'll have to see what 2016 brings then

That's such a huge misconception. No, they don't keep secrets well. They hint all the time, and they're never subtle. They don't blatantly lie about a game explicitely not being in developement when it is. Aonuma hinted at MM3D for like 2 years before it was announced. This guy is literally saying "we haven't started it, guys. Get over it." If there was a Prime 4 in developement, we'd either know it, or he would have kept completely quiet about it.

And it's 100% not being done by Retro, and they've been working on something else since TF. Which is good, because they are much better at making DK than Metroid. Diddy Kong Racing Returns, please.

No, besides Federation Force Nintendo will do nothing to celebrate Metroid's 30th anniversary.

Maybe they'll also put all Metroid games on the Virtua Console on sale for a week or so.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I don´t expect anything.
I was hoping that Retro was developing something Metroid-related for 2016, but it seems that´s not the case.
They will probably just overlook it.

Isnt this game coming out next year? Maybe they release a SE.

Yes, let's all just forget what they said at E3 2014 about Metroid, because it's convenient for my argument.

What exactly did they say, because I don't remember them ever implying that a core one was in developement, only that both 2D and 3D Metroid had a future, which is obvious.

Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo: "So it has been a while since we released the last one and we're having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we'll be able to share something about them."

But please, tell me more about me ignoring info because it's "convenient for my argument."

Federation Force could actually end up being a pretty good game. It'll probably be more fun than Hyrule Warriors Legends anyway...
