Forums - Gaming - Was the original Xbox the best Microsoft console?

The OG Xbox was a good console that had some good exclusives, but the 360 is miles better than it imo.

My opinion ? NO !

360 is the best MS Console, then the first XBox, and X1 last, all in all.

Hmm... I would say that the 360 was easily better. As a first console? It was above and beyond the other 2 main competitors in several places. Though it did release last. Still... Very impressive first foray into the industry.

No. From a hardware standpoint, it isn't even worthy of being compared to the 360 or X1, same with software. The 360 and X1 eclipse it in terms of multi-media functionality, the controllers have steadily and markedly improved from the original design, and you'd need to be wearing your Nostalgia Glasses to think that the library of the original XBox is better than the the 360s. Once the X1 is fully backwards compatible with the 360, the 360 will be obsolete in every regard next to the X1.

Consoles get better every generation; such is the nature of technology.

I recently un-earthed my original Xbox. Gave it a clean up and hooked it up to my HDTV via component cables. Played the first Halo(of course) and was surprised by how nice it looked even to this day.

What a coincidence, I also played through Halo 1 yesterday... but the much prettier anniversary version on my XBO.

The original Xbox was my favorite 6th gen console, but when I moved on, I sold most Xbox-games and replaced them with prettier versions (or sometimes handheld versions I can play on the go). There aren't many titles left which I can't play in better quality on another system which draw me to my old "crystal" Xbox.

Nevertheless it is still connected to my CRT in the retro corner of our guest room:

Honestly, the original xbox was crap. You had to buy a $30 attachment just to watch DVDs and the controllers were horrible. It's library was absolute crap except for a few diamonds in the rough. It's probably one of the worst consoles ever.

I keep hearing all of this "360 was better" stuff... Yet I clearly remember nearly every 360 I had burning out with red rings, where both of my Xboxes still work flawlessly. Plus, 360 didn't have kotor.

But the 360 can play it.

Well, it had Knights of the Old Republic, so... Yes I guess so.

Good thing you can play that game on the Xbox 360 too. ;)

Good thing i play the first and the second and the thir one (MMO) on PC

While the build quality was great, and the hardware was powerful, IMO the 360 is the console that made the Xbox a household name. And software wise it had both the quality and the quantity.
