We are now in the age of the creative sandbox games. Since the release of Minecraft, the crafting genre, the create your own game idea has been pretty popular, and has turned out in dozens of games following that idea. Minecraft has become one of the biggest succcesses in gaming history, and it will sure be as common as Tetris or Solitaire in every piece of hardware. Then we have Mario Maker, a level editor for 2D platforming brought to you by the creators of Super Mario. Looking at the dozens of roomhacks prior to its release, we can say this was a really wanted app. However, I don't think this game would have been made without the breakout success Minecraft leading the way.
But what if Mario Maker came out first?
What if this game was, per example, a GCube title? How would it affect to the crafting genre? How would it affect the platforming scene, the evolution of the console wars...?
