Forums - Gaming - Why Sony can't just let God Of War die and move on?

But my question was explicitly about the next God of War "Who has said the next God of War needs to have Kratos as the main character?"

I also think they need to stop prequelling the fuck outta GoW, but I honestly think they are done with GoW prequels.

I know, I was just pointing out that so far they've declined to do so. That doesn't mean they will never stop with the prequels or anything, but so far they've chosent to stick with what's worked. My initial reply was a tad snarky towards Sony(I can't resist a straight line!) but in all seriousness I have to default to thinking that there will be no changes, until changes are actually announced. That's all.

It needs a reboot and change but SM does need another franchise.Either way I will still play it as it is the best in its genre.

I'm pretty sure Santa Monica tried to develop a new IP, but it sucked so bad that Sony cancelled it, fired half of the studio and rehired Cory Balrog (Director of GoW2) to develop a new God of War game.

Plus, it's a pretty awesome franchise. Aside from Ascension, which is "only" good, all God of War games are Master Pieces.

Cory was hired long before they cancelled Stig's game. At some point in time it seems like SMS had 3 major releases in development.

Place your bets guys! Whose alt is Chief? Is it Flamingweazel? Yukanasenix? Somebody else? What an exciting mystery.

So since I don't agree with your bs, I'm an alt? You are even worse than one.

Huh, so you aren't an alt? My bad, usually when a new guy without an avatar comes into a thread to kind of aggressively defend one of the big 3 he's an alt. Welcome then, you could still cut down the aggression a little, it won't help you here, trust me, I know from experience ;)

Mainline games sell loads of copies, Kratos as a character is iconic for PlayStation.

On top of that, having a top class AAA hack n slash franchise as an exclusive is something that separates PlayStation from Nintendo and Xbox. Many people see the God of War franchise as the pinnacle of the genre, for good reason. When you add in the endless potential of other cultures to expand the franchise into, you have a great future ahead.

I'd want them to let it die if they star Kratos in GoW 4.

Probably one of the worst protagonists IMO (the lack of depth really annoys me), and I'm really just sick of seeing him. They should reboot the series with a new main character set in a completely new setting. Like Egyptian mythology.

seems like a no brainer for Sony to make GoW4 on the dominant sales leader of the gen as an exclusive, should sell well enough

maybe some new owners that play the remaster will fancy another buy

Did I really defend Sony, or was I defending GOW? You decide, and there is a big difference between the two, I only like a few Sony games, GOW being the one I like most, but dislike the majority of their output.

Of all games GoW? I would be excited for a GoW4 with a different mythos for the story.

There's nothing worse than entitled gamers exclaiming that certain franchises should die, get over yourselves, if there's millions of fans begging for more and the quality stays consistently good then what's the problem? Look elsewhere for new IP.

Yeah, it's really kind of strange when you think about it.  There's a very real problem with society (At least, as an American, I can say it's a problem with American's, I won't speak for the rest of the world) these days, thinking that every game that comes out must cater to everyone.  Who the fuck cares?  There's thousands of games released every year, do you play every single one?  No.  Of course not.  Just play what you like, and ignore what you don't.

Apologies for the late reply, but yes, I agree entirely that this 'make what I want or don't make it at all' attitude is a problem and I don't think it's limited solely to Americans but to western gamers in general. Everyone expects everything to be catered to them, people nowadays seem to be more egotistical than ever.

It's not like anyone would be forced to buy GoW4, if the game releases to critical acclaim but the sales are very low then maybe it would be in Sony's best interest to put the series to rest. However, to preemptively dismiss a game before it's even been officially announced is bizarre, what if it's another critically acclaimed masterpiece which shifts 6/7 million copies like GoW3 did? Why would anyone want to kill that possibility... :/
