Forums - Sales - GameStop Refuses to Sell Console Bundles That Include Digital Copies of Games

I'm so glad to have places like GameXChange and Movie Trading Co in my city now. Been forever since I have stepped foot into a Gamestop.

Moves like this reminds me why. Also, most of those physical games they bundle in will likely be opened and used copies LOL.

sounds like a very short sighted strategy. like it or not digital is the future of gaming. I guess they don't have a lot of choice though as digital is gradually eroding and destroying their business model, still I would have hoped they would find ways to innovate rather than create policies rooted in the past.

Secret scheme to keep the flow of used games, but this won't really help them in the long run

I don't care if they're doing this for selfish reasons (which I assume they are). I fully support this. I refuse to buy console bundles that don't have physical games.

But... I thought GameStop were evil?

Nice to see them doing the right thing for once. Go GameStop!

I'm not sure doing something purely out of naked self-interest qualifies as the "right thing."

Good news, I always hated seeing MS have digital codes in their bundles instead of physical copies.

75% of core gamers buy physical so this is totally logical.

This move will in the worst scenario increase GameStop sales.

It is a great move.

I think it's merely a final futile attempt to keep physical relevant. Which again, is futile. Great for Gamestop, but it's only short term. Anyone who seriously thinks that this will slow digital down from completely taking over is completely out of their minds. Instead of finding a new bread and butter and modernizing, they are trying to preserve their old bread and butter, which is on the way out, and fast.

They're this generation's Blockbuster.

How many times do you need to be proven wrong before you chill with this nonsense about the console industry morphing into steam? NPD already showed that 75% of core gamers PREFER physical. That's right... 75%. This means that your views on the issue are WAY out of touch with reality.

You and anyone else can prefer digital. It's your money, and I don't care. But you have to understand that it's not the people buying phyiscal that is out of touch... it's you.

Digi is growing. Which is a great thing. I'm almost 100% digital now. Gamestop with their crazy ass prices should've been put out to pasture

Nothing is more "cazy ass" than the prices of console digital games so it's odd you have that complaint. How many times have you seen a digital title selling for full retail while the physical disc is discounted or on Ebay for like 15-20 bucks?

Good news, but I still won't buy from Gamestop. Hopefully other stores will follow suit.
Digital download codes are a turn off for me. Last thing I want to do when buying a new console is wait several hours for the game to download. All the XBox One bundles here in Canada only include a game token. PS4 is starting to do the same thing with the last of us bundle.
