I hope the used sales market will transition into the digital marketplace. It would be great to resell my old games digitally :).

That...

You know that can't happen, right? Like, that obviously can't happen. No company in their right mind would create a controlled digital ecosystem nessecary for a digital market place, only to relenquish that control to consumers and allow them to make that money instead. Publishers like digital because it kills used games. They aren't suddenly going to bring it back.

I think it all depends on how much money they can make on it themselves. If, for example, MS would set up a used games marketplace, where a percentage of every sale goes to the publisher, I believe it could maintain revenue from a game long after it has stopped selling in the regular market. There are obviously risks with it aswell but I think publishers could reap some great rewards.

...Or they could not do any of that, which they won't, and 100% of every sale goes to the publisher, because MS isn't a charity. There's literally no scenario where that would be better for publishers than just not doing that at all.

I am fine with it, I make back some money on older consoles and games I no longer need (PS2, PSP, Vita) and put that money to new consoles and games. But I don't buy used games myself. All my games on PS3 and PS4 are new.

You know EU already have a ruling about this matter. They understand digital purchase as ownership, not licensing for use, so if you own the product you have the right to sell it. If it ever comes to fruition it will be due to law enforcement.

Well, my thought like I said, I own the copy, I have all the right to sell it. Imagine if Hyundai puts a lock in their car so it can't be resold, and if a person purchases it they have to pay a fee to Hyundai themselves so they can turn the car on. Or if I want buy a house that is already of someone and that were made by a construction company, I buy the house, but to get the keys to live in it I have to go to the original company that builted and pay 20,000 USD to have the keys. I think in media, mainly physical media, the same way.

This. I think that society as a whole will have to rethink how we view digital media as property. The interesting thing is that a Bluray is only just another storage device, but since we can physically hold it in our hands, we suddenly put a monetary value on its content. Has the monetary value actually changed because the digital content is on a disc and not on a harddrive?

Games stop selling at some point. If a game stops selling to the regular market at one time, and five years later it generates revenue to the publisher through a used game sales marketplace, of course its a win for the publisher. A used games marketplace that is digital can be controlled in a whole other way than at a physical store. For example, the publisher could set a time limit, meaning the game cannot be resold until a cetrain amount of time has passed. It would be the same principle as with Games with Gold or PS Plus.

Used games are a very important thing! I mean, how else should I get NES games these days? If there weren't used games, Nintendo would be like "yeah, fuck you, buy old games on the e-Store". If one particular game isn't up there, well tough luck! That would suck pretty hard. Then there are console manufacturers that doesn't even exist anymore. Without used games, the games of the past for such platforms would be lost for all eternity.

If physical dies, so does gaming as a culture. 20 years from now you wouldn't be able to play old games from today. They would just be gone, apart from some remasters or remakes. The used market is VERY important for everything in culture and art. Only with that they are able to exist until all eternity. With digital only, DRM and all that shit, games just exist for a very short amount of time.

Games don't stop selling with digital, dude. That's the point. Five years later, that game would still be bought new with digital. It would just be severely discounted. That's the win for the publisher, since they still get all of the profit. No used games, no time limit. Just price drops and pure profit.

The used market is required but more so the physical market in general. Until digital prices get cut by 50% or they allow you to sell your license back at 50% the price you paid for it, We cannot allow any company to throw only digital games down our neck as it only makes them more money and costs the consumer more in the long run.

The used game market is you and me

Used games will.never go away, even if the next gen would be digital only, there are still 8gens and billions of games in the world.

When physical goes away so does my interests in next gen
