I think it all depends on how much money they can make on it themselves. If, for example, MS would set up a used games marketplace, where a percentage of every sale goes to the publisher, I believe it could maintain revenue from a game long after it has stopped selling in the regular market. There are obviously risks with it aswell but I think publishers could reap some great rewards.
