All I know is that a true Metroid game should have released for this console. Goddamn it. They might release one on the NX now.

i wasn't here nor part of those numbers game. but i know that Nintendo is losing the grip for sometime now, and i don't know how big of a success the wii across the world is. all i know in south east asian countries, most wii are bundled with homebrew and 10 homebrew configured games of SMG, etc...
as of the moment, i think Wii U can still reach 21M, it deserves better sales but Nintendo doesn't want to drop its price which they need to as the competitive pricing of XBOX 1 and PS4 is really good and offers a lot of the main stream games.

If it was called Wii 2 and had good marketing behind.
I thought it would've finished around where the Nintendo 64 finished at.

My initial feeling was if they're going to do the "1 generation behind Sony/MS" thing again they needed an incredible controller, so when it turned out to just be a tablet controller, I had that "uh oh" bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Trying to sell a console on the back of a controller doesn't work unless the controller is legitimately something ground breaking.
It's like saying you want to be a model, but you're not good looking ... it ain't gonna work.
I was fairly pessimistic on the console, but when they had that Bayonetta 2 conference with Call of Duty, I thought "OK maybe just maybe they can pull this off".
I did not forsee casuals abandoning Nintendo so rapidly though. Like they all left.
I can't pick between moderate success and proud third place. I was expecting a big drop for Wii's LTD because all the signs were pointing to most Wii buyers only being in game consoles for one generation. But I thought it would probably retain some people and therefore end up above Gamecube.
l thought there would be a good battle between Wii U and Xb one. But USA and UK are making it no contest.

I didn't know that it existed at launch.
I only found out about it around 1014 or so, that should say a lot.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I am a big Nintendo fan. I had no idea it existed until I went online to look at the reveal of the twins in 2013. Instead of buying one of the twins at launch I bought a Wii U WWHD bundle. So needless to say I had no idea. I would have bought it at launch if I knew it existed.
Looks like it's going to be the largest drop in video game history. Well between that and the 3DS.
Wii: 100 million
Wii U: 17-18 million (estimated finish)
PSP: 80 million
Vita: 17-18 million (estimated finish)
DS: 150 million
3DS: 68-74 million (estimated finish)
Sega Genesis: 40 million
Sega Saturn: 10 million
Smartphones/tablets have decimated the Wii U, Vita, and 3DS IMO.
IIRC correctly, before it launched I thought around 40-50M. Just after the launch I think I settled on 30-40, although, if memory serves me well, I thought that was a bit generous as well.
However, never had a clue it would do this poorly.
Literally no one had ANY doubts or reservations before Nintendo released the WII U ?!
Did people here forget the 3DS struggled on it's first year ? (I guess that was sidestepped cause of mobile ...)
Was Nintendo's later years of how they supported the WII any good and did they have any sort of prior experience to developing HD games ?
Why change the controller if it was something that worked ?!
Does this community know that the past doesn't pay homage to the future ?
The WII U in it's own respect was much like the early days of the PS3. Fans on both sides believed that their favourite console manufacturer could do no wrong when flaws kept stacking up and both had issues pushing out quality software ...
