Soccer is a national sport with no personal attachment like MLB,NFL and NBA.By that I mean most cities or states have their own team, which makes it a more intimate connection. As a Raven's fan I feel closer to the team since they represent my city.I feel a since of pride when I drive near Camden yards and M&T bank stadium, plus being black I grew up playing basket ball and football or owning one of those balls like most blacks. Then you have high school and college baeball, basket ball and football.Small towns and states have their own teams with huge rivalrys.

What? The MLS is exactly like the MLB, NFL, NBA. Most cities or states do have their own team. If you can feel an intimate connection to your local MLB, NFL or NBA team why can't you your local MLS team?

I think it's the baltimore blast lol but they don't even promote it.Growing up in the city there is not much grass to play soccer and not gaols. It is easier to get a basket ball or a football and just run around out back or throw the football around.

Stop calling it soccer, dammit.

all to do with infomercials.

there is no time outs in soccer or long stopages of play between fouls and plays.

Advertising companies can't milk the sport as much so no one pushes it as the world game..

ok back to reality. it will take time to grow like in other countries that soccer has not been the dominant sport.

I mean...that's definitely not the reason that it's not popular in the US. It might be partially the reason. But certainly not the reason.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

you're both right. There is no single reason why. Just a multitude of reasons. While I agree the commericial aspect is not the biggest reason, I think it directly reflects networks willingness to exposure of the sport.

The less something is on TV, the less popular it will be and vice versa. If there is a higher profit margin in one sport over another in a minnow sport, a big network will likely sacrifice the time to the one that will yield more money.

Americans and Europeans alike need to learn the superiority of Gaelic sports though!

What's wrong with Soccer?  What's your problem with the sport of Soccer?  I played Soccer as a kid.  Soccer was a great deal of fun, in camp, after school, tons of soccer.  Probably played more Soccer when I was younger, than I did any other sport.  Kind of strange really, when you think about it.  My interest in soccer didn't really carry over into adulthood.

Probably it was partly down to wanting to distinguish themselves from Europe and Britain especially. That's probably the same reason why they changed so many english spellings and phrases quite randomly.

It's simply natural that the U.S. would wind up different from Europe. As for spelling, there was a time when there was no true standard for spelling, and when early dictionaries began being compiled and circulated they often favored (as they should) the local spelling. When you add in the difference in accents it's actually more surprising that we have as much in common as we do lol

Lets just all be glad cricket isn't popular worldwide..

What do you mean by isn't popular? Cricket is ranked by most as the second most popular sport in the world, only runs second to soccer. It's massive popularity in India and Asia alone make it huge, then most of the western world and many african countries have it as one of their top sports. (also without a doubt my favourite sport to watch).

In pure numbers cricket is insanely popular, but it isn't really that spread around the world. A bit too focused in India, don't they generate something like 75% of all world cricket revenue or some crazy amount like that?

Well that is hardly surprising, cricket is by far the number one sport in india and with a population in excess of a billion people it would be strange for it not to be the largest chunk of revenue. cricket though is popular throughout most of the world, especially the Australasia, UK region, africa.

Goals? You don't need proper ones, just throw a couple t shirts or something down that's how we do it in England

We used Flip-Flops or even stones to mark the side and that was good enough XP

In school, we used our bags for goal posts and a crushed can for a ball, but it's kind of dangerous because it has sharp edges. Almost lost an eye once.
