Forums - Gaming - Does exclusivity increase your enjoyment of a game?

Is it better if it's exclusive?

Hell Yeah! 98 32.03%

Couldn't care less. 145 47.39%

EA sucks 63 20.59%

Total:306

I could not care less.
If I enjoy a game, why would I care if a neighbour/friend etc. owning another console brand can't play that game?
A good game is a good game, exclusive or not.

A game written from the ground up for specific hardware clearly is more likely to max out the performance of that hardware and utilise all its good features. Even the humble wii had some stellar games due to its motion controller. The PS3 had some games with amazing pre-rendered video at 1080p quality that could not be stored on a DVD disc of the 360.

By contrast a multi-format game is developed so it can be run on multiple consoles despite each console having weak parts of its specification so the end result may have many design compromises.

i hate playing games. i only play games so i can tell you how stupid you are for having not played a game. therefore i get much more enjoyment out of exclusives because there are far more stupid people that can't play it. it is also why i play downloadable games because there are soo many stupid people with slow internet.

Can´t believe people is saying yes! I don´t enjoy them more just because other people can´t play what I´m playing, that´s mean.

No, not because it is exclusive. But secondary factors like being designed purely for the system, can then result in a better game, but due to the nature of exclusivity we can't compare to see if it did have an effect or not.

This is probably the closest thing to my answer here.

No. Why the fuck would the fact that less people get to play a game I may like increase the enjoyment I get from it? The only good thing about exclusives is that normally they're quality games, mostly because of Sony's and Ninty's deep pockets and the fact that they give a shit about having a good reputation with their first party games, I would say the same of Microsoft, but I think that MCC showed us how little they care about putting out quality products as long as a quick buck is guaranteed, AKA RUSH THEM GAEMS.

You can't think of an example of anybody else doing that?  Nooooooo rushed games from some other company that either had to have its online fixed or it never worked well at all?  No example of online being taken from games people were still playing just to force them to buy the updated sequel?  You drawing a blank, here?

Super Mario Maker is a better game because it's exclusive thanks to the gamepad making it much easier to create levels than in LBP.

LBP Vita used the touchscreen/sticks/buttons-combination to make it much easier to create levels years before Super Mario Maker. LBP3 on PS4 uses a touchpad/sticks/buttons-combination to make it much easier to create levels. Xbox-consoles could use any smartglass-device for level-creation...

Not nearly as good as the gamepad with SMM.

Yeah, like you have even tried creating levels with LBP Vita, LBP3 or Project Spark (which supports smartglass)...

Yes, LBP3 is ten times more complicated and Project Spark is garbage and why would I want to get smartglass?

Have you ever looked at how simple it is to create levels in SMM? LBP and Project Spark are much more complicated.

I like you Said but you're going down a path I can't follow!

Yes. If it's on my system of choice, it means I am used to the controls of said system. Which increases my enjoyment of the game.

However, it mostly increases value and enjoyment of the console.

But it's dangerous to go alone. ;(

Nope. Case in point, I was one of the few (possibly only) people who implied The Order was gonna be hot street trash, months before it came out. Sure, people on the Xbox side may have said it, but I doubt it was genuine, as they just said it because it's not on their platform, like how PS fans say Sunset Overdrive is "just ok", or how Xbox fans say SFV "isn't a big deal" (SO is a great game, and SF is the premier fighting game. You can't downplay that because "well, we can get our fighting fix with Killer Instinct." It's not even close)

Every time someone posted a new thread about how The Order looked promising, or how the graphics were great, or how some outlets gave positive preview impressions, I always said "Ready at Dawn is unproven. They've only worked on handheld games with already established, successful IPs, so the mechanics and stories of the games are already put in place; they're just the ones putting in the manpower of the computer work behind the game instead of the main studios. They don't have home console experience. They don't have experience in making their own original IP. Temper your expectations".

Then everybody went into damage control mode when the game finally released and I just said "I told you so".

Exclusivity doesn't make me enjoy a game more. It allows me to talk shit lol, but when the game gets booted up on the console, it doesn't become the greatest thing since sliced bread, just because it's not on another console. I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm sure The Phantom Pain will be just as enjoyable as MGS4, even though it's multiplatform. And I bought MGS4 twice and played through it about 5 times.
