To cite pokoko in this very thread: "It will probably sway a few people here and there who need to sell their old console to get a new one but don't want to sell their games. Everything positive adds to the collective appeal of something you spend that much money to buy."

Additionally it may be more convenient to play your old games on your new console. The new console is probably properly attached to your current TV, the older ones may  be removed to the attic. Or worse, the older ones don't have HDMI yet, while the new one has. Little conveniences like that can have a big effect.

I disagree, playing ps1 on a crt tv with composite cables looks better than playing ps1 on a ps3 via BC, because that's how it was intended, HDMI gives the ps1 resolution nowhere to hide its limitations.

Just something about using the proper hardware, too.

Pretty much, I have 40+ consoles.

Backwards compatibility is always a good thing. The issue lies in what type of backwards compatibility. For me, Hardware emulation is the far superior choice. Software emulation is great, but not every game you have ever wanted to play is guaranteed.

Why emulate, when you can play it on PC

Melee on LCD, results in significant input lag, competitive melee is always on CRT

To me BC on Xbone is a nice addition and actually influences my future purchases I wanted to get a dirts cheap X360 just to play the handful exclusives it has. At this point I'm not going to get it, but instead will go for an Xbone. I won't buy a single multiplat for it, will just use it to play X360 and Xbone exclusives, which actually makes a for a decent library, probably equal to the Wii U exclusive library.

Still, I obviously won't pay full price for such a console. I'm only going to buy it when MS cuts the price to under 250 Euro or gives me the Xbone+Samsung TV for 500 Euro deal. I'd jump on that second one any day.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Your interest is kind of my point.  There has to be a pretty decent amount of people thinking this or something similar.  Once someone owns the XB1, there is a high probability that they may spend money in other areas that they hadn't planned.  Even if they only buy system exclusives, it's a win for MS.

It was on X360 as well and the media is milking it because there are still millions of people waiting to transition to 8th gen.

Glad you realize that the gaming media are biased bags of shit....

If you take a look at amazon USA sales or sales data from europe or the NPD's since E3, we can only assume that BC was nothing to most people who have yet to upgrade. It has no bareing on their decision and is a complete red herring... used similarily to all the "cloud" talk back at the start of the gen. If there is one thing MS is good at it is marketing and buzzwords "Azure", "Cloud", "Offloading".... it is kinda sickening that there are people who take these things for fact.

Almost three years in and there has been minimal use of any cloud tech....nothing you could really tell any difference between if it was just normal AI etc.

Then they show this "Hololens" (another great buzzword) and the media and MS portray it as some amazing tech when the viewin area is absolutely tiny..

It is all rather pathetic but hilarious.

Another great buzz word is #sourness.

It's awesome. I was really disappointed when the twins said they weren't having backwards compatibility - specifically for my digital games - seriously? Why can't my PacMan DX play on my Xbox One?

The WiiU allowed backward compatibility - but not up-scaling. That was a big disappointing as the Wii really needed it compared to other consoles and 1080p TV's.

It's a really nice feature to have. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Wow, you leave me a bit speechless. Good for you I would say.

Anyways, back to topic: This is far from usual. Most people don't keep their old CRT TV and some even sell old consoles to be able to purchase new ones. But even without the CRT, having BC is more convenient for most.

I'm not saying BC is a killer feature or no BC is a dealbreaker, but having it is actually neat for some people.

I really don't think the BC will create much of a buzz, at least in the scale you are speaking of.
